After presenting the standard beer I found to drink on a daily basis in Colombia, it's now time to introduce something especially nice: A flavorful refreshing citrusy Session IPA hailing right from the city I visited, which even has a pretty cool name, Happy Pelicano (sic).
After our outing into the historic city center of Santa Marta, we decided to wind down and enjoy a nice drink on the Malecón, that is the beach promenade, in one of the spiffy looking restaurants. As always, I asked for the most local beer they had, half expecting the typical standard Colombian brew trucked over from Bogotá, I described in my last #BeerSaturday post. I was pleasantly surprised to be offered an IPA (not too common in Latin America to begin with), at "session" level (not with K.O. levels of alcohol), that is brewed right there in Santa Marta. Of course I went for it!
Sierra Nevada? Of Course, just not the Californian one!
The brewery where this aptly named beer comes from is ironically also called Nevada, after the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, that is the mountain range that rises up into incredible heights right behind the coastal city. The brewery is located only 6 km from the town of Minca, which has been recommended to us as really worth a visit. (Well, not this time, but maybe on my next visit I'll go and check it out.)
As their website shows, there are a number of craft beers to be had at this fine brewery, all of which are named after local wildlife: the toucan, the colibrí (hummingbird), the nebbi (some kind of large feline) and the coca (hmmmm... I feel like that's the one I should try next!) And all of them are happy...! Of course they would be!

I also thought first of Sierra Nevada, which I also like. Yours is also interesting, given the description :)

And why not? There can be more than one mountain range that looks like a snow-covered saw. It's a cool name for a geographical feature, and even better for a brewery!
I didn't mention anywhere that it should not be called whatever it wants. I just thought of Sierra Nevada.
Oh man! So maybe it was me all along who thought that the name Sierra Nevada was already taken! 🤣
It seems to be a nice IPA, perfect for listening to Vallenato 😂
Have a great weekend
!PIZZA
That's right! Whether you want to, or not.
Maybe after 5 or 6 beers you start to appreciate this music
Hehehe, I tried that. It did help me to pass out, but actual appreciation is still a bit further out...
