King Crush at BrewDog in St Andrews Scotland

in BEERyesterday

Hello Hello Hivians and all you beer lovers. Don't you just love trying new things?

I certainly do. So today we shall be trying for me a new drink in a new brewery pub!

The pub in question was BrewDog on South Street in St Andrews which I had been meaning to go into.

So when we were in St Andrews last Saturday then I knew exactly the place to go!

image.png

It was busy at the front but we found a comfy seat at the back and spied what we needed!

image.png

The menus!

image.png

First things first the Drinks Menu

image.png

Which believe it or nor was quite confusing. I expected to see their beers in the Drinks Menu, it is a brewery afterall.

But no, they were on this flimsy sheet.

image.png

Decisions Decisions Decisions

It was only when I got to the bar that I actually made my mind up.

It is a pretty cool idea, each beer has its own number and corresponding tap (faucet).

image.png

I opted for ...

Number 8 ~ Kings Crush

I was tempted to go for the Elvis Juice as the combination of Grapefruit, Caramel and Citrus was intriguing...

image.png

image.png

I had asked for a pint but the barman it only came in a schooner. No problem said I.

image.png

Schooner or a half pint?

I thought a schooner was a bigger glass. So I did some quick research and a schooner is 2/3 pint but a Geordie schooner is a half pint.

I must be thinking of the Geordie schooner as I have drunk my fair share of Newcastle Ale in my time.

I had a double check of the menu, £6.35 for a half pint.

Fluff me that is an expensive drink!

There is a quote from the website ...

Coming in at 8.4% ABV, it's one to sip and savour.

But at what seems like a pound a sip, it definitely is one to savour!

image.png

UNITED WE STAND FOR BEER

image.png

One reason I ordered the King Crush was to find out why it was described as a milkshake IPA!

It's an Imperial/Double Milkshake IPA. This means it's a stronger IPA with the addition of lactose, which gives it a creamy, "milkshake" like texture.

image.png

Of course I had to compare the milkshake to a creamy coffee!

It was creamy but to me the beer tasted more like a fizzy alcopop type thing than a beer.

It was something that I did indeed sip and savour.

image.png

The obligatory foodshot ...

image.png

We had a hoppy meal which was a clever if somewhat corny take on the happy meal!

A great day, but as I don't want to disappoint @asiaymalay I will leave the token food shot...

Take a bite!

image.png

If you want to know more about what is a Hoppy Meal and the food, then feel free to check out my food review post My First Hoppy Meal from BrewDog in St Andrews

However, before I knew it, I had sipped my last sip!

The Stats - King Crush

image.png

Let's get the run down for King Crush from our AI prompt in Gemini with the Brewdog as a source.

Essentially King Crush is a tropical fruit-forward, creamy IPA with a relatively high alcohol content.

Some characteristics of King Crush

  • Style: It's an Imperial/Double Milkshake IPA. This means it's a stronger IPA with the addition of lactose, which gives it a creamy, "milkshake" like texture.
  • Flavour Profile: It's described as a "big and bold" beer, packed with mango and passionfruit flavors and aims for a balance between sweet and citrus notes. - Alcohol Content: It has an ABV (alcohol by volume) of 8.4%.
  • Ingredients: Water, malted barley, lactose (milk), malted oats, torrefied wheat, hops, yeast, natural flavourings.
  • Hops: Include Citra, Mosaic and Talus.
  • General Impressions:
It's intended to be a beer that's savored, not rushed.

My Verdict

image.png

I exercised my Divine Right to try King Crush and I thoroughly enjoyed it is a drink.

It was fluffing smooth and fruity.

It did not feel like you were drinking sipping a beer, more like sippy a fizzy fruity summer drink!

It went well with the food, which gave it a sort of summer barbecue feel to it.

You could tell the fruity flavours had citrus in there as well as hints of mango and passionfruit.

As a drink I enjoyed it and I understand about the milkshake description giving it a creamy flavour.

It did not feel like a beer, but I guess this is the sign of the times, and that is what craft beers are about!

Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community is Always a fun thing to do....

Cheers 🍻

It's a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 399 from the one and only @detlev.

This #BeerSaturday week I would like to invite @asiaymalay to share a beer 🍻

DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND DO IT OFTEN

Haste Ye Back!

Sort:

I do like a wee brewdog pub. Haven't tried that one but will get it next time I am out!!

The internet was down when trying to order, so had to go upto the bar and open a tab. They only take cards and their machines wouldn't work. Unfortunately it came back by the time I settled the bill!

Damn it. Could have escaped the prices!! 🤣🤣

You need to get to writing another post.. I'm getting tired of rereading that last one..

Life has been shagging me up the muck but I the I am nearly there 😃😃

That beer is looking like apple beer, you guys are really blessed with different kinda beers over there unlike here

We call apple beer cider. Do you use that term?

Nahh havent even tatse an apple beer before I'll see what I'll find in the supermarket though as am unable to go out bcus of the kids

Am trying to think what I used to drink over there, it was either Guinness, Star or Trophy if I remember correctly and there was another one

Over where in Nigeria you mean? I've tasted all 3 beer you mentioned though 😁

lol yes in Nigeria

The pricey drink, I'm sure, is something truly unique and exciting, offering a fresh and new experience for the taste buds. I actually have the same mindset when it comes to exploring new drinks as you do! Whenever I visit a new café or shop, I always make it a point to try the most intriguingly named drinks on the menu. I find that the more unusual the name, the more likely it is to offer a delightful surprise. As a drink enthusiast, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the subtle differences in flavor, texture, and presentation that each drink brings. Each one is a small adventure, a new opportunity to discover something special and different. I love how a single sip can take you to a completely new flavor world, and it’s always exciting to explore these new combinations.

It is usually great to try new things, and yes an intriguing name often means great delightful results!
The first sip did indeed bring a new world of flavours. It was a new combination I hope to taste again!
Thank you and I hope you are tasting some new flavours!

Nice that I heard from you that you love to try new flavors of drinks especially unique name, I trying but not so often now a bit pricey going out for drinks, but yes once in a while and I don't waste time for the drinks I already known.

I'm not a fan of mango particularly, but based on the fruit description it seems like a refreshing beer. I liked the photos with the detail of the pewter cups, it was curious to see them there. It looks like a nice bar!

I do like mango, but it was not overly mango, but it really was refreshing! It was a cool bar and a relaxing atmosphere.

great! :)

Haha, it's an absolute coincidence!
I just had King Crush today, and it was awesome!

Hehe what a coincidence... I just read your review and agree with everything.
It was awesome and yes it was worth it. The price is not cheap, but it is so very drinkable.
