Pop Up Pub at the Shipyard for Beer 🍺 Saturday

Pop Up Pub at the American Shipyard for Beer 🍺 Saturday.png

Just before Christmas when we doing some Christms shopping, Mrs T nudged me and said "look Beer Saturday!"

I replied with "pardon!"

I looked over and she was pointing to this gift box that called itself ....

The POP UP PUB!

image.png

image.png

Back of the Box reveals that there is :

  • A bottle of SHIPYARD American Pale Ale
  • A bottle of SHIPYARD American IPA
  • A packet of Pork Scratchings!
  • and a Glass that should be washed before first use.

image.png

The Pork scratchings were in the gold coloured packet inside the glasss.

image.png

Truth be told, the only reason Mrs T pointed out the Pop Up Pub to me was the fact that there was a glass inside that she fancied!

She can't fool me!

image.png

I was looking forward to tasting them.

American beer? I was a bit dubious as they weren't lagers.

In the left corner we have the American IPA and in the right corner we have the American Pale Ale.

It did say it came from Portland Maine.

I have no idea what is in Portland but I know Maine is famous for lobsters, so maybe indeed it is on the coast and they built ships!

image.png

Which shall we try first?

American IPA

image.png

Yes by ways of a bit of coin flipping the American IPA won.

It had a decent golden colour and good bit of froth too!

I choose it first as it was slightly stronger!

image.png

Yeah it was drinkable for a 3 country/continent pint! I say three country as it is American styled Indian Pale Ale that is brewed in the UK!

But but it says Portland, Maine on the bottles and both beers are American!

Aye read on MacDuff, and all shall be revealed soon!

But I liked it, it was smooth and the grapefruit did shine through.

American Pale Ale

First thing I noticed....

The size of the fluffing head!

I associate the colour and head with lagers,so not my favourites...

It did look rather pale compared to the IPA. Would it pale in comparison too ... pun intended!

Indian food for an Indian Pale Ale

Earlier in the day I had bought a whoopsie or reduced item, these Indian inspired starters were half price.

They were a bit dried out but did the job..

The glass

Now we know the reason Mrs T pointed out the Pop Up Pub.

She is not much of a drinker at all, but does like a gin now and again.

image.png

It is a big glass.

I must admit I prefer drinking gin a tall glass not these balloon things.

They should be kept for red wine or brandy!

image.png

But someone wanted that glass and to christen it! Who am I to argue 🤣

The Stats

Screenshot Source Shipyard Brewing Company

If you goto the about us page on the Shipyard Brewery website then you will see that...

Shipyard Brewing Company is a family-owned brewery based on
Portland Maine for over 20 years.

Oh right, American beer after all ....

But wait, here comes the fluffing but ....

Scroll down to the bottom of the page and you see this ...

Did you see it...?

Shipyard is brewed and packaged in the UK

Aye right, no more from Portland Maine than I am the Portland fluffing cement man!

Enough of that, it happens all the time, but howcanit be family owned if it is part of the Carlsbery Marston's conglomerate that is trying to wipe out British craft beers....

I digress what about some stats for you...

My trusty Gemini AI tool on my chromebook gave me the following insights:

Here's a breakdown of the details for both Shipyard American IPA and Shipyard American Pale Ale:

Shipyard American IPA

Style: American India Pale Ale (IPA)
ABV: 5.0%
Aroma: Citrus, grapefruit, pine
Flavour: Citrus, grapefruit, pine, balanced bitterness
Appearance: Deep golden color
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, slightly dry finish

Shipyard American Pale Ale

Style: American Pale Ale (APA)
ABV: 4.5%
Aroma: Citrus, floral, pine
Flavour: Citrus, floral, pine, balanced bitterness
Appearance: Pale amber color
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, slightly dry finish

My Verdict

I loved the IPA and am glad I drank it first. It was less insipid than the Pale Ale.

The IPA did have grapefruit coming through, the Pale Ale I just found a bit meh to be honest.

The American IPA has a slightly higher alcohol content (5.0%) compared to American Pale Ale (4.5%) and you could tell.

The Pale Ale seemed a bit flowery and in future I would just get two bottles of the IPA.

The IPA went down equally well before food, with food and after food!

The IPA is well worth paying for. the Pale Ale is well worth drinking if it is given to you!

Posting about a beer on a Saturday on the Beer Community ....

It's a whole bunch of fun, so check out The #BeerSaturday Challenge - Week 393 from the one and only @detlev.

This #BeerSaturday week I would like to invite @mamani to share a beer from Cuba 🍻

Thanks for visiting and enjoy the rest of your day!

DO WHAT YOU LOVE AND DO IT OFTEN

Haste Ye Back!

Sort:

I'm more of a dark beer and lager guy, but the pale ale looks really good!

Yeah I prefer dark beers too but these were drinkable!

All for the gift glass and pork rinds!!! ;) One question: good beers have more foam? Here it is an art to pour the beer in a glass and it does not foam. I love the traditional bitter taste of beer, although I've also risked drinking beers that look like cider wines. A good Saturday night, my friend. Hugs

hehe don't you like something for free?
I don't like foam, and here if you get too much foam people will complain you are being served foam not beer.
But in Europe and with lager beers they have lots of foam!
Wishing you a wonderful Sunday and a big hug to Venezuela!

It would be a real pleasure for me to have a beer with you and your wife but we are so far away. Lately many brands of beers are imported in Cuba, but I have always preferred Heineken and of course the ones made in Cuba, Bucanero and Cristal. Especially the ones that are strong and bitter. I'm not a regular but I do from time to time. Ah, cold and with foam are the best. Amigo @tengolotodo thanks for your virtual invitation. Cheers and good Sunday. 🤗😘🍺

Thank you @mamani and I prefer beers from our own countries. So I would like to try the Bucanero and Cristal.Yes distance is a problem so we can do it virtually!

Have a wonderful Sunday 🍺

At least you got the glass 😁. The food, seems a little today, but It looks fulfilling. So maybe enough😁😬.

Hehe well it was snacks not dinner, so yes less than normal hehe

Kind of a cool concept! A nice set of beers and glasses, clever on someone's part. I'm glad you enjoyed but the pale ale sounded a little to flowery. I don't like that either!
