Ein Kävelse Zwickl [DEU/ENG]

Bereits vor zwei Wochen haben wir an einem Sonntag einen Ausflug nach Kevelaer gemacht. Wir wollten uns dort schon seit langem einmal das neu gebaute Gradierwerk ansehen. Mir ging es dabei nicht so sehr um das Atmen salzhaltiger Luft, sondern mehr um die Bauausführung eines solchen Bauwerks.

Two weeks ago we made a trip to Kevelaer. We wanted to have a look at the newly built „Gradierwerk“. I was not so much interested in breathing salty air, but more in the construction of such a structure.

Bei einem Gradierwerk rieselt salzhaltiges Wasser durch Reisigzweige. Hierbei wird die Umgebungsluft mit kleinen Tröpfchen und Salzpartikeln angereichert, was der Seeluft ähnelt und gut ist für Allergiker und Asthmatiker. Da Kevelaer als Wallfahrtsort bekannt ist, wurde das Gradierwerk in Form einer Jakobsmuschel gebaut.

In a „Gradierwerk“, salty water trickles through brushwood branches. This enriches the ambient air with small droplets and salt particles, which is similar to sea air and is good for allergy sufferers and asthmatics. Since Kevelaer is known as a place of pilgrimage, the graduation house was built in the shape of a scallop shell.

Nach der Besichtigung des Gradierwerkes sind wir noch in die Stadt gegangen und hier habe ich dann ein kleines Brauhaus (http://kaevelse.de/) entdeckt. Da zu einem Aufenthalt die Zeit zu knapp war, habe ich mir hier zwei Flaschen (Zwickl und Urald) mitgenommen.

After the visit of the "Gradierwerk" we went into the city and here I discovered a small brewery (http://kaevelse.de/). We had no time to stay there, so I took two bottles (Zwickl and Urald) from here to home.

Eine Beschreibung der Brauerei gibt es hierzu leider nicht. Das Etikett ist schlicht gestaltet und begnügt sich mit „Handgemachtes Spezialbier - naturtrüb und ungefiltert“

Beim Einschütten in das Glas präsentiert sich das Zwickl undurchsichtig und honiggelb. Die Krone ist großporig und fällt schnell zusammen. Der Geschmack ist jedoch enttäuschend. Der Alkoholgehalt ist mit knapp 6% nicht hoch allerdings schmeckt es mehr nach Alkohol als es sollte. Dazu ist es unangenehm bitter, so dass die Armhaare sich der Sonne entgegenstrecken.

When poured into the glass, the Zwickl presents itself opaque and honey yellow. The crown is large-pored and quickly collapses.

However, the taste is disappointing. The alcohol content is not high at just under 6%, but it tastes more like alcohol than it should. In addition, it is unpleasantly bitter, so that the arm hairs stretch towards the sun.

Fazit:

Leider war das Zwickl nicht besonders gut. Die Hoffnungen liegen jetzt auf dem Urald.

Conclusion:

Unfortunately, the Zwickl was not particularly good. Hopes now lie on the Urald.
