Happy New Year!
Maybe the most celebrated holiday in the world is the welcoming of the new year.
Part of our New Year's celebration was the preparation for the media noche as we waited for the clock to tick to 12:00 am,for the first day of the year 2024.
One of the culture here in the country is to prepare round fruits for prosperity and sticky food so family would stick together no matter what. This new year's tradition is what we call palihi in our dialect. Although I did not religiously followed this tradition, and just prepared whatever came to mind, I found something in the market that made me, in a way, stick to this tradition of palihi.
While tikoy is a popular Chinese delicacy in the Philippines during the new year because of its cultural significance, I really haven't tasted one. I am not very adventurous with food and it is not a common delicacy that we can find here in my town. But while going around the metro supermarket, I found this delicacy being sold. I thought that I should at least try it. How come I am a Filipino and never tried one. 😅
So I bought just a few pieces of tikoy and macy. I did not have any expectation to the taste. Perhaps it would taste better than I expected or just ok but what's important is that at least I have tried it.
During the new year's eve, I was excited to finally have a taste of tikoy and macy. And guess what? I was not expecting it to be so good. Though tikoy and macy are quite similar, there's a slight difference in the taste. Both are made of glutinous rice flour. Tikoy was stickier than macy. Macy has a peanut butter filling. The grounded peanut in macy makes it more delicious as I could still chew the grounded peanuts into smaller pieces. The tikoy has a filling too but macy is more delicious. The verdict is that I love macy more than the tikoy but both are delicious. I guess I have a new favorite. I would definitely have these delicacies on the table next new year.
Look how tasty macy looks...
My First HPUD of the Year
New year inspires me to reevaulate my life, learn from the past experiences and reorganize or set new goals.
My Hive journey 2023 was a roller coaster ride. There were ups and downs but I had a lot of fun. Every up is a moment of motivation and inspiration to go further and continue the journey. The downs made me reorganize my thoughts. Asking myself, "what went wrong" and made me reset my goals.
One of the goals I set last year was to complete my HPUD every month of the year. But sadly, I was not able to keep it up. I discontinued halfway of the journey. And this led me to reset my goal for this year. This time, I promise myself to be more rigorous on my HP goals, to be more persistent and consistent.
Starting with powering up 11HP, I am on my way to 2000HP. Yey! It was slow and steady journey last year but this year I'm changing gear, aiming for a complete HPUD badge for the year, more power up month (HPUM) and more 100% power up of my post rewards.
Again, happy new year and happy HPUD!

Yey, cheers! 🥂 Oo nga, re evalaute and reset. Every experience is a chance to do better.
Yup, ung macy parang buchi style. Mas masarap sya sa tikoy for me. Pero same2 lang cla ng ingredients.
Happy New year.
Happy new year too!
That's a really interesting tradition. Over here, we do fireworks, no special delicacy for the day
I wish you so much luck with your goals this year. I can't wait to see you reach 2000 hp😊
Philippines is a mix of culture that is why. This tradition is influenced by Chinese beliefs. Yes at some areas, like the cities they do countdown with fireworks. Since we're in the rural, some would use fire crackers or anything to make noise like banging metals as we countdown to the new year.
Happy new year!
Yesssss, fire crackers too. I just love the joyful sounds.
Happy new year 😊
