What you sow is what you reap! Harvesting sweet potatoes of my hardworking farmer Dad!
Planting is our family's thing ever since I was a child. Farming is really in the hearts of my parents. My mother is currently working in Department of Agriculture in our Municipality. While my Dad is busy managing our little farm with different plants and poultry & livestock animals on it. Also, one of my eldest sister graduated under the course of Veterenary Medicine. That's why at a young age, my eyes opened early about the importance of farming in daily life.
Today, I joined my Dad to harvest some sweet potatoes. We have this small farm land for crops that is dedicated for personal consumption only. But sometimes, when we could harvest a lot, we also tend to sell or give it for free to our relatives or neighbors. My Dad would plant different crops to our small farmland depending on season and months. A few months ago, maybe one or two months, my Dad planted sweet potatoes and this month, they are now ready for harvest. But my father decided to harvest just a little for our personal consumption only.
Harvesting sweet potatoes was somehow challenging. You need to dig the soil in order to get the sweet potatoes. And sometimes the potatoes were at the deeper part of the soil that's why it gets really challenging to harvest it. And you need to be extra careful because sometimes the sweet potatoes were too big and long that you might cut it. But all in all, it was a nice experience. I enjoyed it a lot and it was very satisfying!
What's good about farming is that you get to use it for your personal consumption. Just like what we did to our sweet potatoes. I've heard my little sister the other day that she was craving for fries. And since we have sweet potatoes now, I made it our own version of fries. And it's nice knowing that it was healthier and fresh than the actual fries that we can buy in the market.
That's all for today loves! See you again on my next blog! Gracias!
