On March 3, 2024, under the canopy of a radiant sky, I celebrated a milestone: my 18th birthday. Surrounded by loved ones, laughter, and an abundance of delectable delicacies, the day unfolded into a tapestry of joy and cherished moments. As the sun cast its warm embrace upon us, my heart swelled with gratitude for the blessings of another year and the love that enveloped me.
My family introduced their celebrations with the spread of Filipino dishes on the table, which was all the evidence of the gangling texture of flavors that defined the culture. From the savory goodness of Chopsoy to the heady aroma of Ginamay Lechon, every bite was delightfully a journey in itself. The smell of pancit and crunch of lumpia hung in the air, as if it were clinging to the calling of the senses to join the feast that lay before us.
Amid wagging tongues and bursts of laughter, the fruits were like jewels—the lake of sweat mirrored beneath and off, giving just the right contrast to the savory feast. The sweetness of the watermelon danced over the palate, the cool crunch of cucumber delivering relief from refreshment that all other bodiless flavors provided. Promises, with each bite, in this green package of lushness and togetherness.
Unknowingly, I captured the moment with a mind lounger as the day unfurled in its gale of brilliance. With the flickering tapers and light bouncing upon softly, I closed my eyes for a second and wished with my big heart. In that passing moment, I wished for a life full of promises and opportunities, a future where the flight of dreams and the aspiration towards life would be limitless. But, most of all, I wished to ask to keep safe and sound my dearest family and friends, whose positive existence lights up my life more than anything else.
The event was a day to celebrate, not just my coming of age, but also to have in memory the numerous instants which were shared and the relative bonding built in that period.
Every single visitor in attendance brought along a piece of his or her heart. They each, in their every presence, brought evidence of the love and camaraderie exhibited throughout our community. All their gifts were very meaningful, all wrapped in colored paper and tied with ribbons, and they were to mean a lot in the future.
For through the hours that waxed away and the sky painted itself in twilight hues, one was left only in the warmth of affection and a promise for another day. In each moment that passed, one reveled in the simple joys of companionship and the beauty of sharing experiences. It is these instances of being together that finally weave the texture to our life, very essence—of us being just who and what.
An uplifting sensation filled our hearts, for the echoes of that laughter had finally lulled down into the night. The day of my 18th birthday was a day full of love, laughter, and the making of irreplaceable memories. It was my heart of hearts that this day was never to be forgotten. It was at that moment of blowing that one candle, I realized the pathway ahead would show its light from the many who had touched my life and made me who I am today.

Hey, happy birthday. Adulting stages are coming, and things may come harder, but I hope it won't be any hell anyway. Nonetheless, enjoy your days being 18, the restrictions lifted and all.
Just be sure to follow the rules still. I would always joke to myself (and same goes to my online friends) that we've finally come at the age where we can be legally sent to jail 😂 But please do take it as a grain of salt, a huge one. Surely I know you'd be good in your life after all. I believe in you.
HAHAHHAHAHA thanks maam
