Hello everyone, a great Sunday isn't it? How have you all been? I hope you're doing well. I'm back again, haruki.tls123, with a new blog post. It's always exciting to share my latest adventures and activities with you, and today is no exception. Your support and engagement mean so much to me, and I can't wait to dive into today's topic.
So our topic for today's blog is about the clean-up drive activity we organized in our barangay in our city. And this wasn't just any ordinary clean-up drive; our mission was to cover up the vandals' graffiti and restore the beauty of our barangay. This project was a significant effort aimed not only at cleaning up the area but also at setting a positive example for the youth and the entire community. So yeah, without further ado, let's start the blog!
So our purok, Purok Ecology, which is part of our barangay West Poblacion, is one of the places bustling with people. One of the many reasons is because my beloved alma mater, Naga National Senior and Junior High School is located in this place. However, it can't be denied that many individuals have been vandalizing the walls, with much of this graffiti facing the school campus. As a youth officer of the barangay, I volunteered to tackle this issue. Together with the barangay officers of each purok, our SK chairwoman, and other SK councilors, we decided to take action and clean up the area.
So we started by meeting at our barangay hall, where we discussed our future plans for improving the barangay. It’s important to include the youth in these initiatives, which is why I volunteered to share these plans with the young people in our purok. I aim to reactivate youth participation in our barangay. If you’ve read my previous blogs, you know that many of them focus on my youth leadership experiences. It would be a waste not to apply what I’ve learned to my own community.
When more people had arrived, we prepared all the necessary materials and immediately began our cleanup efforts. We wanted to start as soon as possible so we could finish early and make the most of our time.
After preparing the materials and having a bit of small talk, we finally began our cleanup drive. We started near the barangay hall, ensuring the area was clear and orderly. It wasn't just about picking up litter; we also removed posters plastered indiscriminately on walls and poles, as they made the surroundings look untidy. Our main task was to cover the vandalized walls with the paint we brought. This wasn't always easy, especially when the graffiti was done with spray paint, which required more effort to cover. Despite these challenges, we remained determined and focused on our goal.
Rain or shine, we continued with our mission because we knew how important this was for our community. The weather alternated between rain and intense heat, but it didn't deter us. We pressed on, knowing that our efforts would make a significant difference. Every brushstroke of paint, every poster we removed, and every piece of trash we picked up was a step towards a cleaner, more beautiful barangay. It was heartening to see everyone working together, united by a common goal. This sense of community and dedication kept us motivated, even when the tasks became tough.
(A stolen picture of me removing some posters in front of our campus)
This activity was indeed exhausting because we had to cover the entire barangay. We went around covering vandalized walls, removing posters, and carrying heavy containers of paint and other supplies. As the day progressed, the heat began to intensify, making our work even more challenging. However, this didn't deter us. Despite the scorching sun and the physical strain, we kept going. We were driven by our commitment to beautify our barangay and make it a cleaner, more pleasant place for everyone. This collective effort and determination helped us push through the fatigue and heat, ensuring that we completed our mission.
Graffiti and vandalism are major concerns for us. I remember when I was still the Supreme Secondary Learners Government President at our school, this was one of the issues we faced. Thankfully, we managed to resolve some of them quickly because my officer and I took immediate action. In our community, this is also a significant problem. Not only does it make the area look dirty, but it also encourages more people to follow suit, leading to an increase in vandalism. To address this, we are covering up the graffiti and strictly enforcing a no-vandalism policy. This means that vandalism is prohibited, and there are fines for anyone caught in the act.
And yes, finally, we finished! The exhausting activity we faced, despite the rain and intense heat at times, is now complete. Right now, my body aches a bit, but it's all good. After our rounds and covering up the graffiti, we were treated to a free lunch, which was a perfect way to wrap up the tiring task. It's heartwarming to see that through cooperation, we can truly accomplish something meaningful. Now, it's time to eat and enjoy our well-deserved meal!
And while we were eating, we chatted about future activities, agreeing that it's much better with the youth involved. It was funny because my cousin, who was also part of the activity, mentioned that if the term of the SK chairwoman and councilors ends, they want us, especially me, to take over. They think I should, given my experience as SSLG president at our school. I'm still a bit hesitant since I'll be in college by then, but the idea is intriguing. We enjoyed our meals, and our exhaustion was replaced by the satisfaction of a full stomach.
And after getting some rest and eating, we all deserved a refreshing break. So, we decided to head to the beach to relax and have fun, letting go of the fatigue we felt from the day's activities. The waves and the cool sea breeze were a perfect way to unwind, and we truly enjoyed the day together. Just like the seas in the picture above, our collaboration during the cleanup drive flowed smoothly, with everyone contributing their part.
As we splashed in the water and shared stories, I couldn't help but feel grateful for the sense of community and teamwork we had built. I hope that future activities will involve even more youth, fostering a spirit of cooperation and dedication to our barangay. The energy and enthusiasm of the youth are like the vast ocean—endless and full of potential. Let's keep this momentum going and make a real difference in our community, one activity at a time.
This cleanup drive was more than just an effort to beautify our barangay; it was a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community. From covering up vandalism to removing unsightly posters, every task we undertook showed our commitment to maintaining a clean and welcoming environment. Despite the challenges we faced, such as the heat and the rain, our collective determination ensured we successfully completed the activity. This experience reminded me of the power of unity and the significant impact we can have when we work together.

thank you so much!!!
Wow, great job @haruki.tls123 ! You're being a good example to the youths of your barangay.
I am tuning for this one. It would be great the youth following your steps :))
As for vandalism, especially the graffiti or spray painting of the walls, some consider it as an art, the artists' way to express their artistic self. What if you consider having a graffiti area where 'vandals' can freely do spray painting? I think that would help prevent vandalism to private and public property.

I hope this job will spread to others and it'll be so much pride
