HivePH Journey on the Long Term

in Hive PH9 months ago

So the market went into a sharp dip, what now? well, if you're one of those folks that stuck with us during the bear season, you already know the drill.

Dito ka lang makakita yung boto mo may direct immediate impact na sa wallet mo kumpara sa sino yung binoto mo sa nakaraang eleksyon.

So why does everyone feel slow like your account's growth or how much you're getting from the community? despite having more than 9/10 of the community growth potential being diverted to community members instead of the account for the past year, those numbers don't really amount to much considering the diluted number of members.

Not every member is looking out for each other in the community. Some part of the game is still a competition despite introducing systems that incentivizes cooperation. Not all forms of support have to be big, the idea of what is enough is all in the headspace. Have you ever had your post valued at 10$ payout? feels good right? wish it went higher? now ask yourself until when will these tips on you be enough.

It never is. You just learn to manage expectations and hold some of the greed to a rational level. If the community account gives you 1%, how much is that 1% if the account is at 1000 HP? what about 100,000 HP? it's all relative. If you think more about what you can do for the community, you empower the community to do more for you.

The most concrete example is just doing how @hivephilippines operates, we let members be community curators and do their part sharing the wealth around. Had the community account acquire more HP, we can increase whatever amount we're giving away and still get some kickback for a job well done.

Do you know the flaw about that program that makes it both bad and good at the same time? the good is that nobody is compelled to delegate to support the program, and it's every member's discretion if they want to be a team player. A member can just be a casual chatter on discord or on the blockchain, take some votes and be deadweights until kingdom come. If they were dumb enough, they could make an oopsie, get outed and comeback with a line that says "ha! took you long enough to notice, suckers!"

It's not like every single person that is labelled a member is pulling some weight of the general community. You can't even bother them to get to know the platform beyond the shitpost to earn schtick. Picture this, more than a year on Hive and you still feel like you don't know the basic technical stuff that decide your income? who's to blame here? your onboarder? whatever you did with your tenure? if you're considering onboarding people, get ready to pass on that handicap to the newbies.

Learn something new about Hive once in a while. It never hurts to acquire some knowledge about what's up beyond the shitposting gig.

The blockchain changes and so does the people in it. This is more apparent during the different stages of the market cycle. When we saw the bull run, we saw new names added. When the times got tough, we saw old names ghosting the community. New projects come and go, and people grow. This is why you shouldn't get complacent about what you know about the tech and the times because you're going to miss out on economic opportunities right at your finger tips.

Picture this, you don't want to risk your money on crypto because the scams and volatility, yet we're still here more than a year and the chart says in hindsight that 20% APR on your staked HBD looked juicy. That's fine, it's not like we got the same level of risk tolerance and capacity.

Your network here also affects your growth. If you spent less time making friends with strangers here, how the fuck do you expect you'll be getter anywhere right after your newbie phase ends? If you're lucky and easily contented, there's still this community to coddle you, just don't expect any big rewards as our community assets don't really mount to much.

But that's the thing about long term focus and growth, everything takes time, it takes work and being more conscious about it feels like your efforts are a drop in the bucket. If you become somebody in the community, the next best thing is converting those advantages in a way that the community can make use of them. It creates an environment where the community becomes better than when you found it.
