It's been a long time since our Hive PH Meetup and yet I just had the time to write a review about the venue where it was held. Well, I arrived at the place first so I took this opportunity to wander around.
The entrance of the place was a little bit plain or simple or so I thought. There was also this out-of-place furniture in the middle. I decided to check out what was on the 2nd floor.
The first thing I noticed was the paintings on the wall that depicted Filipino culture.
When I landed on the top of the stairs, I was a little bit enchanted. Plants were lined up which was refreshing to the eyes.
And these small little statues greeted me.
My eyes then wandered toward the inner space where wooden chairs and tables are set near the walls. More Filipino elements are used to decorate the interior like the classic Amakan or woven split bamboo mats on the ceiling and more paintings of Filipino culture. Don't forget the Philippine flag hanging on one side.
I like the topless tribal woman being inked by an older tribal woman. Not sure if this was about Whang-Od. Another painting depicts the traditional Filipino cock fighting sport - SABONG.
Why is there a Stormtrooper painting? or seems like a wood carving...
Further inside the room is a mini function room that caters to 10-15 people with a karaoke and tv unit. Not bad for a small gathering of friends.
A frame hangs out on the wall that shows news and magazine articles showing the owner and a story about the restaurant. Well, the manager brags about this guy's humble beginnings.
Heading out, I did notice the design of one long table. It's made of these tiles with different patterns. It looks so lovely. The outside view of the open deck was pleasing to the eyes. The variety of plants that surrounded this space made it look like a mini garden. Though simple it felt so cozy.
Walking into the other end of the outer deck is yet a part of this establishment but gave off a different vibe because of its different interior design and aesthetics. A bit colorful and lively. I want to say there is this "Persian" theme but I might be wrong.
The inside room felt more upbeat with all the lighting, and the painting on the wall, and was more spacious in the middle. I love the wall and hanging plants too! Bottles of wine and alcoholic drinks were displayed on a corner shelf.
However, what attracted me to this space was the beautiful shishas displayed on one table. I was just glad @akumagai ordered one later on during the meet-up. 😁 He and @maverickinvictus enjoyed smoking it throughout the night.
Here are their food options though I'm not sure if the prices are already affordable for this part of Makati.
After my short trip to the second floo, I headed downstairs. That's when I noticed this beautiful painting of a woman who later on I learned was the mother of the owner who hailed from Iloilo. The very reason why the owner decided to put up a Filipino restaurant.
Behind the glass wall was the main function room. The place was big and spacious and can hold up to 30 or more people. The interior was simple though some Filipino accents were still evident. A karaoke set sits on one side.
The food made our stay all worth it. I mean for my part. There was a variety of food ordered and I got to sample some of them. I would have wanted to eat them while they were still warm but it took us some time before we started eating. For me, the food was just delicious. P.S. I love their sisig!
It was @maverickinvictus who suggested the place to the organizing team and somehow it was just the perfect place. Now, when I think of Lobo Tavern, I would just smile because of the amazing memories I had from that first meetup.
Lobo Filipino Tavern is located at 4898 Durban Street, Poblacion, Makati.
