Hello, beautiful Hivers in this community! It's good to be back. I have been occupied during the holidays but here I am going back on track.
Today I am sharing with you the other thing I do as a teacher here in the Philippines- GARDENING.
At the beginning of the school year, I, together with my students usually prepare a vegetable garden. We prepare the soil by putting organic fertilizer just like manure to make the soil fertile.
I am fond of gardening because I think that it is therapeutic and stress-relieving. Also, I consider it as our bonding time with my students where we can crack jokes and laugh at them at the top of our lungs. I can say my students enjoy gardening too.
These pictures are a testament that my students put so much effort into helping me realize our vegetable garden. Each had something to contribute and I am forever grateful for these wonderful students.
They helped without expecting something in return. Well, of course, other than we can eat the yield of our garden after harvesting, nothing else is expected.
We planted vegetables like Chinese kangkong, alugbati, spring onions, ampalaya, eggplant, tomato, okra, squash, and beans.
I grouped my students so they could take turns in watering and taking care of the plants. I surely admire them for putting a conscious effort into the responsibility I have placed on their shoulders. They are remarkable and responsible too! I am one blessed teacher I must say.
When everything was planted, we then proceeded to paint. We painted everything we could think of to make our garden pleasant and attractive. I could vividly remember the day we decided to paint was a day full of fun and giggles.
Everyone cooperated and helped each other. We were one big happy family working on one common goal-to make our garden pretty and lively.
Good thing the paints were shouldered by the school through its fund. I was happy working on the garden because I do not need to get from my resources for everything that was provided. How cool is that huh?
From the seeds to be planted down to the nails, paints, and brushes too. Truly, only our effort and time were invested in the garden. I cannot complain; instead, I am extremely happy about this one rare opportunity.
After all the efforts and time we exerted, I and my students were very happy and proud of what we have accomplished through unity and cooperation. Aside from the finished product, it's the process that we went through together that made us even prouder.
As you can see, teaching here in my country is more than what meets the eye. It is so much more than teaching a concept and making the students learn such concept. It is also teaching real-life skills that will be useful when they will set to navigate their course in chasing their dreams and aspirations in life. As a teacher, this is what I want my students to remember me. Someone who affects positive change and ignites inspiration within them.
How about you dear Hivers, what are the precious moments you have shared with your teacher?
