With MECQ or the Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine, 50% of the work force are now able to report for work with strict observation to social distancing. But public transportation is still not available at this time.
Monday, first day of work and going to is never been as easy as it was two months ago. Jeepneys, Busses, Tricycles, Taxis even TNVS service are not seen on the road. The road is filled with private vehicles and motorcycles. Traffic is all over the road again, even most of the public transport is still halt for operation.
Worker's who doesn't afford a motorcycles or car have walk a couple of kilometer away from there home for work. While some who can afford a bicycle shift to it from commuting. However, the road design here in the Philippines is not bicycle friendly and most of Filipino driver's behind the wheel doesn't care about them. Road is a dangerous place for bicycle user.
In fact, there are hundreds of reported accident everyday where a bicycle is involved. Most cases are fatal, but until today the DPWH (Department of Public Works and Highways) and MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) doesn't care about this problem.
Possible Solution to the Traffic
The problem link to Covid-19 pandemic will here to stay until the vaccine or cure is become available. Public transport is limited and the observation to social distancing still implemented. This is added to the old problem we have encountered 2 months ago, the traffic and lack of public transport system.
So the possible solution to this problem is bicycle. But the Philippines government must do there part ahead of time until all work force will back to normal. They should design a bicycle lane where in no motorized vehicle is allowed to enter even the motorcycle which has the most number of dumb road user.
What is the benefits using bicycles
- Pollution in the air will lessen or decreases.
- We will become fit and healthy since biking is one good exercise.
- We save money from buying fuels, oils and other oil related product.
- Lower maintenance fee compare to cars and motorcycle.
- Zero fatal accident, only bruises perhaps.

Now that we're returning to work, I'm also considering to buy a bicycle. It's now the easiest way to reach to our destination since we don't own vehicles.
Yes mam, bicycle is one of the choice I had now until vaccine and cure is made available. If possible I will avoid crowd.
It's nice to have this kind of bicycle. You won't feel the hassle of riding on a vehicles which we are not sure if they will still follow the social distancing.
I wish I could afford one and yes I agree with you. Bike is the solution for social distancing, commuting is bit dangerous as of the moment of pandemic.
