Basic Tokenomics: What Are The Different Tokens In Splinterlands?
First of all, Welcome to the Splinterverse! If you are new and would like to know what are the different tokens in Splinterlands, then you are in the right place. In this post, we will introduce the different tokens that you can earn from the game with some discussions about their usage and mechanics.
Tokens
Dark Energy Crystals
Dark Energy Crystals (DEC) is the main in-game cryptocurrency. This is also known as the transactional currency of the game. You need to buy a SpellBook in order to use and obtain this token. It is primarily used for:
- Purchasing and Renting Cards in Splinterlands Market and Secondary Markets
- Buying Packs in the Splinterlands Market and Secondary Markets
- Upgrading Guild Buildings (Hall Arena, Barracks and Store). You will need to convert your DEC to Guild Power (GP) first, before donating it to the building.
- Purchasing Energy. Energy is consumed every time you battle.
- Purchasing Wild Pass to have access to Wild Format.
In order to obtain DEC:
- When you rent out or sold a card to other players.
- When you burn Unbound Cards (Cards from Packs, Market or Unbinded Soulbound Reward Cards)
- Bought from Exchanges (Binance, Crypto.com etc.) or Markets (Hive Engine, Tribaldex etc.) using Fiat and Crypto.
- When you reached Top 50 in the Leaderboards. Top 1 will receive 200K DEC while the top 50 will receive 20K DEC.
- Burn SPS for DEC (Flywheel).
Splintershards
Splintershards or SPS is Splinterland's governance token. SpellBook is required to obtain and use this token. This is primarily used for voting on Proposals in game. You need to stake your SPS first in order to participate in voting. SPS is managed by the Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO). SPS can be used for:
- Voting on Proposals. Proposals can be made by the team and SPS stakeholders. The Proposal with the highest votes will be implemented.
- Staked SPS increases the rewards obtained from winning battles.
- SPS Delegation to other players.
SPS can be obtained by:
- As rewards by winning Ranked battles and Guild brawls.
- As rewards from staking SPS.
- Bought from Exchanges (Binance, Crypto.com etc.) or Markets (Hive Engine, TribalDex etc.)
Glints
Glints are SoulBound (non-transferable) tokens. You don't need a SpellBook to obtain and earn Glints. It can be used for:
- Buying Card Draws, Loot Chests and Resources in the Rewards Shop.
Glints can be obtained in:
- As rewards from winning Ranked battles.
- Burning SoulBound Reward Cards.
Vouchers
Vouchers are also Soulbound tokens. This is primarily used for buying cards from the Exclusive Shop. It can be obtained from Staking rewards (just like SPS). You can also convert DEC to Vouchers burning DEC in the process.
Other Tokens
Aside from DEC, SPS, Vouchers and GLINTs, there are also some tokens that can be obtained from the game.
Credits
Credits are non-transferrable tokens. For F2P players, this is the main currency that can be used to buy cards in the game. It can be purchased via Credit Card, Paypal or Crypto.
Merits
Merits are obtained from Guild Brawls. They are used to purchase Gladius Cases which contains Gladius cards that are exclusive to Guild Brawls.
Crowns
Crowns are also awarded in Guild Brawls. It mostly used for upgrading buildings.
