When I was a kid, one of my simple joy was when my mom would buy me notebooks and school supplies during back to school season. I can still vividly remember the list of required school supplies my mom would prepare before going to National Book Store. Notebooks were color coded base on subject. Brown is for civics, red is for English, green is for Science, and so on. This would change depending on your grade level.
Simple biscuits were special to during our time. My favorite snacks includes peanut kisses, dewberry, and Rebisco biscuits. During our humble beginnings as a family, my siblings and I would have to ask permission from my parents everytime we want to eat a biscuit because my mom tightly budgeted each piece for our weekly consumption.
Halo halo and ice cream have always been my favorite even as a child. These were my rewards everytime I get good grades in school. On some weekends, my parents would treat me and my siblings in Ice Castle- this restaurant sells a giant halo halo which can be good for 5 people. Those were our bonding moments.
I remember back when I was still in Nursery, our school gives us free snacks every 9:30 AM. Sometimes they serve congee, champorado, biscuits, and orange juice. But what I enjoyed most is when they serve noodles with egg. My parents were quite strict in disallowing us to eat instant noodles because of its wax component. So I savor everytime I get the opportunity to eat some noodles. Nowadays, spicy Korean ramen are the trend. Those are my favorite too.
These little joys weren't just little because it's what shape who I am. If I were to go back in time, I wouldn't change a thing. May these simple joys reminds us to be contented in whatever we have now while pursuing what we want.
