First Friday mass in the office plus free lunch

Every first Friday of the month, our office invites a Catholic priest and holds a mass in our office pantry.

While waiting for the priest, I notice that people, including myself, often wouldn't want to sit in the front row during masses and opt to sit at the back when in fact more blessings are in front than at the back. Haha. So the utility crew adviced us to move forward so people standing at the back can also have a seat.

Our presiding priest is actually a foreigner living in the Philippines for a long time. So he can speak our native Cebuano language very well. If I'm not mistaken, he is also active in outdoor activities such as hiking.

This particular first Friday mass talked about adultery and cheating. Even in the early days, during the time of God, circumstances like these already existed. I can say that this must already be the norm in our society. So when news about celebrities, or even friends and relatives, breaking up because of cheating, I'm not shock anymore. However, I also believe that when a person truly love you, he would defy the norm and be faithful.

The mass ended with the priest blessing all the February birthday celebrants and a blowing of cake.

First Friday mass is at 11 am to 12 noon so free lunch is served after mass. Sometimes, when many people are in the office, it's hard to grab some food in the pantry. But today, only a few are in the office so we were fortunate to be among one of the first people to get our share.

Like most Friday mass lunch, the HR department prepared barbecue, chorizo sausage, and ngohiong, plus puso (native rice) for lunch. The February birthday celebrants collectively are given a birthday cake for sharing.

That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!

Sending some love and light

With love, Jane

Thank youu :)

What an amazing way to welcome the month of February. I believe the mass presider comes from St. John Brothers.

Hi :) by chance, do you know the mass presider?

I didn't know there was a Cebuano language... Is it similar to the 'traditional' Philippines language?

Yes. Like every country, each region has their own native language. But ultimately, theres a national language. Ours is Filipino language. :)

Wow, it is so interesting! But is it similar to the Filipino language? Can people from different regions understand each other?
