We had a very stressful week. We are all hoping that all the negativity will end soon enough.
As I was taking a break after the First Friday Mass this morning, three students asked me to help them locate a lost phone.
I asked her to enter her log-in information for the email addressed linked to that phone.
Since we were having issues in our Internet speed earlier, I asked her to see the Prefect of Students just in case a phone was found and turned over.
When I finally got the "Find My Device" working, the phone was located at a residential area about four kilometers away from the school. I thought, could it be that she left her phone at their home? At the time though, I was already in another emergency meeting, so I could not ask her right away.
After the meeting, I went to her ask where she lives. I showed her the marked location in the map. She said, it's not their house.
However, she informed me that they called the phone and the driver said, he will deliver the phone to the guard.
I kept tracking the phone's location. For a moment the connection was lost. However, about 15 minutes later, I saw that the maker is now outside the school. So I hurried up to the guard house and asked if a phone was delivered there. Both guards said no.
I stood by the gate and talked with some of our students's guardians. I told them that I was waiting for a yellow tricycle who was supposed to return a lost phone.
They pointed out yellow tricycle parked at the nearby corner. There's also traffic aid there. I went out to ask. As I approached, I told the traffic aid that I'm waiting for a yellow tricycle whos driver is supposed to return a phone.
The driver emerged from behind and asked if I was the owner of the phone. I said no, but asked him to come with me so he can return the phone personally to the owner.
I asked him to wait at the guard house as I fetch the owner of the phone. She was in tears when I got back to her. Her tears turned into tears of joy when I told her that the driver is already has arrived.
She was very grateful and thanked the driver even before the driver gave her the phone back.
I asked for the name of the driver and told the student that she must tell her parents the goodness this driver has shown.
She already has a bill of cash in her hand and handed it to the driver but the driver refused.
As we talked, he shared that he spotted the phone on a street face down. The owner confirmed that the tricycle she stopped on that street to drop another passenger. That's when she dropped her phone.
He picked it up. He kept the phone on. Probably he waited for the owner to call. He did not hesitate to return the phone to the owner right away.
His name is Arsenio Avelino. He displayed an exemplary honesty. I hope every driver will follow his example.
As we say in Filipino.... "Sana All!"
