Just across from Wright Park, there were stalls for souvenirs, pasalubong or food souvenirs like strawberry jam and others. But there are two stalls (I think) where we can rent native traditional costumes of Benguet. Tribal costume in Benguet has different styles and cuts and that recognizes what typical group the native is in.
Benguet is part of the Mountain Province which it declared to be separate and independent along with three others. Native people still preserve the traditions and values of the province which tourists find interesting. They have distinct costumes which they easily identify as one. Furthermore, some groups are being born in the province which is believed to be another tribe, namely: Ibaloi, Kankanaey, and Kalanguya.
This is the store where we rent tribal suits. And there are others as well who wanted to try at least.
Visiting Benguet has been one of the most treasured travels I had. Exploring this place would never be complete without wearing its ethnic costumes. It's a privilege to know their origin which somehow preserves the traditions we have in the Philippines.
From the headdress, we had different styles yet we had one a common which was the feathers adorned around it. Next, the multicolored cloth wrapped in our bodies served as the upper and lower attire enough to cover our inner so that we looked like one of the tribals. Lastly, regarding the accessories, most of the origin brought something so we had flower pots and two boys had shields and blades.
What are we looking at here Ma'am Honey and Ma'am Smile? Seems it has choreography murag, inanion ni ang tiil, ay hehe.
Striking different pose hehe.
The colorful clothes we wore were just perfect for our skin tone. I initially picked the blue one but Sir Chris got it already so I opted for the red black cloth. Striking different poses might at least show our joker side, yet of course, there's also respect for the native.
What I like about this tribal suit is that I feel like I'm wearing the whole nation. Wearing this costume proudly as I'm one of "them". Being able to step on their shoe would not be enough, and being able to pose like them cannot equate to how lucky we are Filipinos to be recognized as preservers of values. We can't deny the fact that we are rich in culture, values, traditions, and hospitality.
That's it hivers! Thank you for reading this blog. I hope you learn something from it. Keep safe and God bless everyone! Toodles !🥰😉🫰
