Providing a life that ducks deserve

in Hive PH7 months ago

Good day hivers! It's Mac once again, welcomes you to my new blog. Today is no special day. No travel, just a home routine. Hours and days passed by fast. Last week, we were doing some organization inside the premises. Sorting out some ornamental plants that look misplaced, preparing a garden for vegetables during the rainy season, transferring plants from one crowded pot to another and making chicken cages.

When santan blooms, it's all in.

The garden is waiting for seedlings 🤣

Today, I'm going to feature our ducks and how we made a makeshift space for them to stay. But before everything else, buckle up, as we roam around the backyard 😂.

Garden with newly planted sweet potatoes 😀

So much for the tour. Let's go back to the main topic😊...

Originally, we only breed two ducks. We intend to have them only for show because it's cute to see a brace of ducks with their brood roaming around the backyard. As the weeks passed, we found out that they will not just roam around but also stay in the garden, eat our plants and destroy the landscape. Then, we decided to put them inside the fence together with the chickens.

Later on, we realized that we didn't have a male one. They're both female. So I decided to buy another 1 young male duck. The owner assured me that the one I picked is a male. After few months, the one I bought lay eggs! Yes! It's a female also. I was shocked and dismayed at the same time. I thought the owner was reliable when he told me that the white one is a male.
(FYI: Ducks and chickens can still lay eggs even if there's no male because of feeds and fats but surely not fertile.)
For a few months, we keep harvesting dozens of duck eggs every now and then. I even uploaded them in my fb reels.
So, instead of killing it, I now decided to borrow a matured male duck. And gosh! I got 4 ducks to feed in the backyard.

The one that has black pigment is the male duck☺️

After a duck hatched 6 ducklings, we decided to separate them from the chickens because when they grow in number, they're gonna dominate and will probably attack the chickens.

So, we decided to build a makeshift place for them near the residential well...

We just used some old interlink wires and metal sheets as a fence. We also intended to put them there because there's an existing concrete tub and if we fill it with water, they're gonna enjoy paddling.

At first, the baby ducks hesitated to enter the tub. But in the long while, they now understand why their mother keeps calling them. This time, we can see them having fun.

But the most tricky part is that, they won't get wet 🤣 😂 😝
And by the way, I'm also gonna flex the pipe that we used as downspout from the well to the tub. We utilized the small waste bamboo stem🤣
