Hey, Hivers! What's up? How are you doing? It's me again, makiyumee and I'm here with you along with my new blog. In my last blog, I shared to you guys the part 1 of the opening of our classes and now, I am going to be sharing to you the second part which is attending our school orientation.

It was still early in the morning, and I was inside our classroom with my classmates, waiting for the program to start. The microphones were turned on and music was blaring up from the giant speakers of the school.

Today was the day where the faculty and staffs of Cebu Normal University – Medellin Campus will orient the students about the school's services and also introduce the teachers and the staffs.

What is a school orientation, by the way? Let us answer this question first before we proceed. So, a school orientation is a special event or gathering to greet new students and aid them in getting to know with the school that takes place at the start of the academic year. Students meet their teachers, explore the locations of their classes, establish relationships with other students, and learn about the regulations of the school at orientation.

The reason why there should be a school orientation at the beginning of the academic year it is because students who attend an orientation feel more at ease and ready for the academic year, which makes it a significant event. It offers them an opportunity to learn what to expect, ask questions, and begin forming friendships. In this manner, they feel more comfortable and prepared to learn on the first day of school.

A school orientation is very essential especially to the freshmen or the first-year students who just became adult learners. Before they were first year students, they were in high school, and this period is very different compared to the realm of higher education. First year students are not called freshmen because how the looked so fresh when they enter a campus, but it is also because college for them is a fresh start towards learning the skills to survive in the real world.

It was around 7:30 in the morning when the program started with its usual routine where we pray, sing the national anthem and the school hymn, and listen to the opening messages from some of the important figures of the school like the campus director and the dean themselves. @iamcheerfellll and I, along with our other classmates, sat at the back of the first-year students as we paid attention to the speakers in front.

The first part of the program was the introduction of the services offered by the registrar and after that was the discussion of what the first-year to fourth-year students should know about the school manual, the rights and many more. It was refreshing actually since all the informations that I knew from before came flashing back inside my mind, reminding me of the things that I needed to know.

When lunch came, me and my friends decided to eat at our friend's house. We bought our rice ad viand outside the campus where the budget-friendly restaurants lined up to offer us their scrumptious meals. We chose our food and drinks before paying. After that, we finally headed towards our friend's house.

As we ate our lunch, we couldn't help but talk about what was discussed during the orientation. We also talked about what had happened during the program like how two of my friends were sleeping at my back without me noticing because I was so engrossed at the discussion. Some of my friends paid attention while the others were busy eating and talking as if they had their own world. Still, we didn’t really mind though since they were already adults and they know what they were doing.

Lunch was done and an hour later, we found ourselves walking back to the campus to attend the second part of the orientation which was about how to use the google classroom since this was our medium used when the teachers would give us tasks and files to read (this one's focused only on the first-years since they're new, but we also listened since there were some additional information that we haven't heard before).

The school nurse also discussed her rules and other information when it comes to student health and the school clinic, the school librarian also shared some information that should be remembered when using the school library. It was a lot of information to process but @iamcheerfellll and I still continued to listen along with our classmates.

It wasn't long until the program conducted an open forum for questions from the students about their concerns and soon, the whole covered court was in chaos as the students fired their questions that were to be answered by the speakers of the program. When all of the questions were answered, it was finally time to end the program since there were students who still need to catch the bus to their respective homes.

All the students stood in line as they waited for their turn to sign their time outs on the attendance sheet, while @iamcheerfellll and I just waited for one of our classmates to hand us the attendance sheet and let us sign it one by one since we didn’t want to stand in line in a crowded area. We didn't want to feel suffocated and cause an injury to ourselves because of pushing around, that's why we just waited patiently as we stood at one corner of the covered court.

@iamcheerfellll signed her time out on the attendance sheet and then it was my turn next. After I signed mine, my friends soon followed. When we were done, it was finally time to go home. Together, we walked the path towards the main road where we would usually wait for our rides towards our respective homes.

Alright! That's it for today's blog, Hivers. I hope that you enjoyed reading today's post and I also hope that you learned something from this experience of mine. See you all on the next one!

LEO Power Up Day - August 15, 2024

Reading your blog makes me miss being a student and I miss wearing that uniform @makiyumee 😊

My uniform's a little tight for me now but since I'm already in my last year as a college student, I had to keep wearing it and also I still need to save some money for our internship uniform haha😁
