A Link to the Past: A Day at the Museum

in Hive PH11 months ago
I wonder what our past looks like. Have you ever done that too, Hivers?

For this blog, I am glad to share with you a place that is full of history and brought me to the past.

And yes, I am introducing you to a Museum!. A place where things are old but attractive and beautiful.

IMG_20240122_150305_921.jpg

This is the Bogo City Public Library and Museum located at San Vicente St., Bogo City Cebu near Public Plaza.

The establishment is divided into two rooms, the library and the museum. So let us focus on MUSEUM

While I was wandering inside, my heart was filled with happiness and excitement seeing things that I had never seen before.

Here are some of the things that are restored inside.

I will start first in the Natural Science area.

I saw different types of seashells and I was amazed by the uniqueness of their colors and shapes. Indeed, there is always beauty in everything.

img_1706402788011.jpg

They are all fossilized but still elegant.

The next thing is,

img_1706403497606.jpg

I was amazed by the size of this gigantic clam. The biggest clam shell I've ever seen so far. It is said from the description that the fossilized giant clam was found in a quarry area, in between barangay Cayang and Don Pedro, both barangays in Bogo City, and is aged between one to three million years. 🐚

img_1706403731380.jpg

While roaming around, this size of whalebone is extremely big! From the description there, it is from a ballena or Whale, that was captured in Baranggay Nailon, Bogo City, in the year 1987. Imagine, this is just the bone, how much more the entire ballena. 😱

Now, let us proceed to the NATIVE CRAFTS

IMG_20240122_143731_423.jpg

Since there were no machines before, these are some of the tools that helped our ancestors do their work.

Some things I even found here are very familiar to me since we owned like this before.

For example,

IMG_20240122_143722_715.jpg

A Plow.

In the photo, it is wooden, way back then, ours is a steel plow. That is very needed especially for farmes. If it is the season of planting corn, we use it to clean the farm, break soils, and form a furrow.

Another thing is this one

IMG_20240122_143755_458.jpg

A stone mill used for grinding corn. It is still fresh in my mind that when we were kids, together with my siblings, our parents asked us to grind the corn using that one.

We always thought that it was very hard and difficult, not expecting that using that one, will teach us many life lessons. One example that I am applying is, Being contented with what I have.

And yeah, I am now mesmerized by my childhood days. hehe🥲

One last thing that I would like to highlight from the area of Native Crafts is this one,

IMG_20240127_150030_392.jpg

Lapu-Lapu.

This person contributed a lot to Filipino history especially when he and his company fought Spanish forces led by a Portuguese explorer named Magellan. Lapu-Lapu had a successful fight. He is known as defender of shore

Let us move on from that section, and I'll be giving you some snaps of the paintings.

IMG_20240122_144456_212.jpg

IMG_20240122_145841_200.jpg

These are painted by the talented locals of Bogo City and I firmly agree that most individuals in this town are talented! ❤️

I also saw this one,

IMG_20240122_143314_310.jpg

Though I did not see any description there, I believe these things are antique and were owned by a prestigious owner.

IMG_20240127_145423_877.jpg

I also saw this long table. Based on what I have read from the description, this is a 12-seater dining table, owned by the late mayor of Bogo City, Hon. Teodorico Rodriguez who served the city for three terms.

The table is made of Apitong known as Mahogany tree. What's more interesting is that it survived two world wars, and has served the Rodriguez family for about five generations.

On the top of the table, what catches my eye is this one.

IMG_20240127_145336_476.jpg

It is a handmade Llardo Lady Figurine from Paris.

And below the table is this one,

IMG_20240127_145439_986.jpg

An inlaid chest, from the Southern part of the Phillippines. And,

IMG_20240127_145305_735.jpg
A long antique Carved Chest.

Now, let me proceed to the Fashion accessories Area.

IMG_20240127_145049_946.jpg

According to the description, this is used by women during the Spanish period. They use it as an accessory when they wear a Maria Clara dress.

The photo indicates a tambourine necklace, a bracelet, and a decorative hair comb. ❤️

This one is,
IMG_20240127_145111_539.jpg

A Chinese eyeglasses, aged for about 70 years. 👓😱

IMG_20240122_143405_525.jpg

Made from Indigenous materials, fashion jewelry.🥰

IMG_20240122_143414_252.jpg

And this one, inspired by the creativity of our ancestors, is an example of a wall decor using a fish net, designed with some Native shells.

IMG_20240127_150815_943.jpg

Now, let me proceed to something that will produce sound or music.

And these are some things that strike me the most.

IMG_20240127_150928_751.jpg

This is what an old radio looks like.

IMG_20240122_143038_90.jpg

I guess the name of this one is Bass Horn. Correct me if I'm wrong readers. 😁

IMG_20240127_150824_998.jpg

This is my first time seeing an old Phonograph, and this is what it looks like.

IMG_20240127_150840_839.jpg

A mini organ.

IMG_20240127_150849_647.jpg

This is an accordion and it is now aged for over 80 years.!

IMG_20240127_150751_074.jpg

A native drum from Jolo Sulo.

IMG_20240127_150730_842.jpg

This is also a native drum from Palawan, Southern Philippines.

And it is a nice feeling, to see things for the first time.

Now, let me proceed to

IMG_20240122_144344_765.jpg

FOLK ART
Some things give me cill. Just like this one

img_1706441343406.jpg
An antique Brass Cannon

IMG_20240122_144059_699.jpg

A bow and arrow, from the native American Indian Navajo Tribe.

IMG_20240127_150543_273.jpg

A jar made out of clay. I remember, my grandmother had this at home, and we used to restore water inside so that we could drink cold water.

This section is also a collection of Cameras.

IMG_20240127_150243_36.jpg

And for me, this is the most unique among all.

IMG_20240127_150352_814.jpg
and this is called a Vintage Revue Underwater SLR Camera Housing with Flash. 😉

This is also a,

IMG_20240127_150201_898 (1).jpg

Mimeographing machine.

IMG_20240127_150105_543.jpg

A typewriter.

IMG_20240127_150118_957.jpg

A Vintage Beige Baby Weighing Scale.

Now, let me proceed to the area of Household Items.
IMG_20240122_143502_059.jpg

According to the description, these are tea cups, made from the ashes of Mt. Vesuvius in Italy.
IMG_20240127_145703_756.jpg

These are wood-carved black cherubs
IMG_20240127_145225_437.jpg

This is a food storage for the tribes of Bontoc Mountain Province.
IMG_20240127_145621_557.jpg

A miniature of bottled beers, that ages more than 30 years.

IMG_20240127_145746_893.jpg

This is also a modern version of a Maria Clara costume. An attire like this is very popular during the time of our Ancestors. Worn by every Filipina.
IMG_20240127_150651_213.jpg

And yeah, before I'll end this, I want to show you this.

IMG_20240122_150154_265.jpg

This is a bust of the Father of Bogo,Don Pedro Rodriguez. He is a former senator and assemblyman, and was the municipal president of Bogo during the time of general Aguinaldo in the year 1898-1903.
His birthday is observed yearly by the citizens of bogo with grand parade and other festivities.

And so, let me end it here.

Whoaaa nice things. It was really sculptured excellent. I haven't seen that kind of things before.

You can visit the place! ❤️

Soon I will. Thank you so much.

I always considered museums one of the best ways to learn a bit more about both the culture and past of a place. And this museum it's a gem for sure!

yah, If you want, you can come over. Surely, you can learn something😉

Such a wonderful place! I wish that I'll be able to visit it one day. Because I truly believe that museums are like a passage that allows us to connect with the past allowing us to learn and appreciate it.

yes, you said it right! ❤️❤️

Absolutely mesmerizing journey through Bogo City Public Library and Museum! The artifacts, especially the gigantic clam and vintage items, paint a vivid picture of the rich history. Your personal connections, like the stone mill, add a charming touch. 🙏🏻

Oh, thank you! 🥺❤️
