Push yourself to do more and to experience more. Harness your energy to start expanding your dreams. Yes, expand your dreams. Don’t accept a life of mediocrity when you hold such infinite potential within the fortress of your mind. Dare tap into your greatness,”

Hello, dear friends in the hive! Let me share with you one of the flagship programs of Cebu’s Pride, Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia's "Sugbo Kahanas Program," which brings life to the few people in our community. The word Sugbo means Cebu, and Kahanas means skillfulness. in layman’s terms. It is a program initiated by the governor for the people in the province of Cebu to be skilled and competent in any job opportunities that they may aspire to in the future.

To give you a short review of the program, some of the ideas are just based on my readings from the renowned source "The Freeman." The skills training program was conceived at the height of the COVID-19 outbreak to assist Cebuanos who had lost their employment both locally and overseas because of the restrictions enforced at the time. The Province of Cebu and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), entered into an agreement to give people free training workshops. Trainees will receive subsidies, allowances, starter tool kits, and national certificates (NC-II) from TESDA upon completion of their course.

How do the SHS students avail themselves of the "Sugbo Kahanas Program"?

It was by chance that I met a friend who is looking for a place to conduct this Sugbo Kahanas Training Workshop on "Bread Making." I volunteered and offered the school to be the venue of the said training, but of course with the permission of the school head. I helped her scout twenty-five participants. thirteen of which are from nearby communities, and twelve are senior high school students.

What is Bread Making?

The Assessment Preparation

Before going through the assessment, students need to practice what they learn from the training. They even prepare and bake the recipe in their homes just to make sure they really learn it by heart. They memorized the procedures, and some are doing the question-and-answer activity.

The Assessment
Most of the time, the assessment is a nerve-racking experience for candidates, knowing their learnings will be measured based on a certain standard.

Mixed emotions can be seen on the faces of the candidates before the assessment and after the assessor gives the feedback and releases the result. Everybody was extremely happy. All of them passed the assessment.

The participants were jubilant after the training. They were so grateful to be part of the program. Some of the participants use the oven to bake bread and cookies; and sell it in the canteen.

The program indeed serves its purpose.

This Kahanas Program is a wonderful opportunity for ordinary men and women to learn skills like bread making in order to give their own source of living! Especially that they're also given the tools and equipment that they need to build their own source of income.
I'm so glad for these beneficiaries and I hope they could put their learning and equipment to good use!
And of course, this won't be possible without the main actor!I salute to the author of this article☺️

😊Thank you very much for the recognition @missjoycee. Everything we do is for the benefits of our students. Laban lang pirmi "Para sa Bayan"

You're welcome @melit79. You're right! Cheers for that!

Do you speak Bisaya? Because I am a bisayan speaker from Mis. Or.

Reading this blog reminds me of Food processing NCII when I was in my 10th grade. The TESDA are also there to assess us. It's such a memorable experience in my HS life.

Bisaya kaayo kung daku @sydney27 hehehhe. I am from the province of Cebu.
It's good to hear you are NC II holder in Food Processing.
I am so happy to meet you here. Thank you for dropping by.

Aww malipay gyud ko basta makatabo ug Bisaya! Happy sinulog diara sa inyua. Ang akong NC II expired na man.

Ako sad malipay ta naa tay mailhan nga Bisaya, daghan man Bisaya naa dinhi.

Nice kaayo ni nga skill mam. for sure your students will be happy learning this new skill.☺️
This is very useful to them, even to us.☺️
Good job mam. ☺️

Yes mam, we also need this kind of skills training. Hopefully naay pang teachers unta sad with the same privilege as the students.

Thank you mam @missleray. I appreciate your stopping by.

You're welcome. ☺️

Ni school ka ani mam? plan to join ani.. naka avail.ko scholar but Event ako...like ani ..

Wala mam @dehai. Mga grade 12 students nako ug taga community sa kal-anan.
Sa Sugbo Kahanas Program dili lagi pwd ang naa nay work oy, target nila are the jobless and the job seekers.

Ang dressmaking kay nagwait nalang sila sa allowance ug toolkits sad.😃

Mag inquire ta mam unsay ilang laing offer nga training.

It's good to attend this kind of training because I love baking, but lack of equipment, hehehe. Anyway, is it still on going until now?

There are lots of short courses offered mam @jobeliever but the problem is the target of this Sugbo Kahanas Program are the jobless.
The dressmaking skills training are also finished. They are just waiting for the release of their allowance and toolkits.
Ganahan gani unta moapil ang mga teachers diri mam ay, pero wala sad ka join. hehehehe

Ah, I see.. True mam they focused on jobless people. Unlike teachers already have, hehehe

😄yes @jobeliever, they are thinking we can afford to buy the equipment. hehhehe. but there are also scholarships in TESDA wherein they cater all walks of life.
