ABOUT ME

Good day, Hivers! I'm Marvie Gimenez, a 22-year-old 4th-year student pursuing a Bachelor of Industrial Technology with a major in Garments in Cebu Technological University Main-Campus. I come from a family of seven, with four brothers and two sisters, and I'm the fifth among my siblings. Our family, though simple, finds joy in the close-knit bonds we share. My father transitioned from being a laborer to a farmer in our small farm due to age, while my mother takes on the role of a dedicated housewife.

Throughout my formative years, I was exceptionally close to my entire family, particularly my two sisters, and I rarely divulged my feelings to them. However, when it came to expressing my emotions, thoughts, ambitions, and life goals, I found solace in confiding in them. Their unwavering support made me loud and open when in their company. I felt no need for permanent friends, as the bond with my siblings and cousins was more than enough.

I grew up with my family. During our time together, I wasn't excessively happy because my parents were always drinking. I envied other families who seemed to be happy all the time, while my parents often fought, especially when both of them were drunk. Sometimes, I had to wake up early to cook our school meals because my mom wouldn't wake up early due to being drunk. There were days when I cried on my way to school, wondering why my parents were like that.

I remember When I was in grade 11 my mother had a UTI because of alcohol, she did not even told us about her conditions until she can’t walk regularly. She did not want to know about her condition because she doesn’t want us to worry about her situations.

During those times, we were deeply concerned about our mother's condition because of her drinking alcohol. We knew she got sick because of it. I prayed to the Lord that hopefully she would stop drinking, knowing the harm it could cause her. However, I didn't pray for her to get sick just so she would stop. I'd rather have her continue drinking than suffer from an illness. Since that incident, she stopped drinking alcohol. We were happy because our family changed for the better. While problems still arise, the important thing is that we're happy.

From elementary to high school, my siblings and I had a daily allowance of 2-5 pesos, sometimes none at all. We walked to school every day, regardless of the distance from our home. Meanwhile, other kids were being dropped off by motorcycles. Despite our situation, I didn't use it as an excuse to give up on my dreams of completing my education. I turned it into motivation to lift my family out of hardship.

Upon graduating from high school, I transferred in Cebu City to complete my senior high school years. The reason for this move was to accompany my older sister, who, as the third sibling among us, generously covered my allowance and school fees. I am immensely grateful for her support, which played a crucial role in my educational journey. This chapter in my life not only deepened my connection with my sisters but also taught me the value of familial support in shaping my journey. The absence of permanent friends was overshadowed by the fulfilling relationships within my immediate family, emphasizing the irreplaceable bond we share.

Now that I'm in college, my sister the second sibling among us supports my education because our parents can't afford the expenses.

I am delighted because I can pursue my college , and I will be the first in our family to graduate. I followed my family's preference not to enter a relationship while studying. They are strict about this, but I complied because I know it's for my own good.

MY HOBBIES
Playing Mobile Legend and reading Wattpad and pocket books is my favorite thing to do when I have free time. I like to read fiction and love stories. Since I was in high school, starting from 7th grade, I've been borrowing pocket books from my sister. I remember, in one day, I finished reading two books. While walking home, I continued reading because once I get home, I can't read anymore as my mom would scold me for staying up late. In 8th grade, I won't forget this. While our teacher was discussing in front, I continued reading as if I were studying our lessons. To avoid getting caught reading a pocket book, I used the notebook related to the subject we were studying as a cover for the pocket book.

In Grade 10, I already had a cellphone, and I used to read ebooks. Social media like Facebook wasn't a big thing for me back then; I was content with ebooks and Korean dramas. That's all I did after studying and doing household chores. It's also the reason why I lost my cellphone in high school. While walking home, I would still be engrossed in my ebook. One time, while buying snacks with my cousin at the store, I forgot that I left my phone on the table where we bought the snacks. So when I returned to the store, my cellphone was already gone.
