April 20, 2024 is husband appreciation day. I did not know there was a special day for this. It's not a special holiday or something, I'm not sure where it came from either, but it feels good to dedicate a day to appreciate the good husbands out there. There's only a few of them so it is only well and good to appreciate them. I'd like to take this day to flex my ever loving husband too.
People I know always hear me talk about him, Tatay Ritsard, as I always refer to him when tell stories about him. He's not your typical vocally showy sweet kind of husband. He very seldom posts pictures or sweet nothings on the internet. So when he does, it means that the emotion he felt was too overwhelmingly sweet, he needed to spew it out on his social media.
He has a different kind of love language. He takes care of me in more ways than one. His way of telling me he loves me is more than just I love you. When I go out, he would remind me of things I usually forget to bring. When I've been working too hard around the house, he would prepare a cold drink and would have me sit down for a bit before I continue on. He also understands that once I have my mind set on finishing a task, there's now way he could stop me. But he also knows that I would complain of how tired and hungry I am after so he is ready and equipped with food and a foot massage.
We've been together for more than a decade and our conversations has not ceased to be interesting. And by interesting, he would listen to me spill all the tea about the entire neighborhood, would comment on it, would ask questions like he's interested, then the following day, have no recollection whatsoever of the things we talked about. He's also been my sounding board for my narrations and reading reflections.
He knows I am headstrong so when we are about to get to a disagreement, he knows to let me make the mistake, catch me if I do, not tell me "I told you so", and then just quietly course correct our life. He is the exact opposite of me which is why we complement each other so much.
The sweetest thing he does is when he reads my mood so flawlessly every time and just sits there quiet, waiting to see if I want to talk about it or if I want to just sleep it off or whatever. It's like he did the work to get to know me that I don't even need to tell him what I need, he just is there.
Looking back to my ideal man, he isn't exactly what I had in mind. But the universe has a way of aligning everything just so they can give you the person that is right for you. The one that's really meant for you. The one that would wash the dishes when you don't feel like it even if his hands are extremely delicate. The one who would support you with whatever it is you wish to accomplish. My husband is not the cheerleader type of husband, but he is everything else.
I am so grateful that I ended up with him and I do hope that we get to grow old together doing old people stuff to each other. We both keep on asking what we'll talk about when we're old. I guess that's something we'll be looking forward to.

It is good that you respect your husband in this way because he is the one who works hard to bring happiness to your world so that his children and wife can have a good life.
He does work so that I can be myself so that I can take care of both him and my daughter.
