A simple act of kindness for our campers | National Learning Camp 2024

in Hive PH5 months ago

Hello, hivers! Another day for a new blog.

National Learning Camp is a DepEd program that aims to fill the learning gap of the students especially in literacy and numeracy. This program is being implemented by all schools nationwide and is not compulsory to all students. The parents will have the discretion whether they would allow their child to attend in the learning camp.

I am delightful to share to you our diligent campers in Bongdo National High School, the school where I nailed my commitment in molding the character and shaping the future of our young individuals.

As one of the NLC volunteer in our school, I have seen in the eyes of our campers their interest and excitement to learn.

Rain or shine, they consistently showed their participation in the fun filled activities conducted and the eager enthusiasm to learn in the learning camp. They have been with us in the learning camp for 9 days and we made sure to fill their cup of learning to the best that we can.

Despite of the increasing economic hardships our pocket had experienced, the learning camp volunteers in every subject areas prepared and gave prizes to the campers in a form of food or money.

We understand that some of our campers came from food insecure homes that somehow gave negative impact to their concentration and academic performance. There are some campers who sit through their lunch time at school because they have no food to eat for they don’t have money to afford it, or they are not able to bring food from home for some reasons. It would be difficult for children to focus in class if they’re hungry. Even myself couldn’t work better when hungry.

The NLC volunteers together with our school head agreed to give a free meal and snacks for our campers on their last day as reward for their active engagement on every activities conducted in the learning camp.

The teachers were busy in the preparation for our campers’ lunch. The NLC coordinator, Ms.Yarnie purchased all the ingredients needed for the menu while the other teachers took their part in the preparation by slicing all the spices, meat and vegetables.

Our chief cook for the day, Ms. Jeneveth set all the ingredients for her menu, pork with veggies and bihon .

At 12 in the afternoon, the foods were all ready to serve. The campers then took their bowl and fall in line in the canteen where food was served. Mamon and orange/apple juice for their afternoon snacks was also served.( I forgot to take pictures during their snack time )

Looking our campers from afar, smiling while eating the foods that we served is an experience that brings a sense of community and shared humanity.

At least in our own simple way, we have fostered meaningful connections and a sense of belonging and support with our campers.

Let us all be a blessing to others through a simple act of kindness.
