Party in the PH: My Kumare throws the Grandest Parties

Hello Hivers! It is no secret that my country loves to celebrate. We throw lots of parties and festivities because we like to celebrate happiness. Obviously, there are fans and anti-fans of such, but in this series, I will be biased and be a fan 😝 I will be calling this series "Party in the PH" as I take you to parties that I have been invited to. Here's to replicating the enjoyment that I felt at the party in this write-up 🥂

"Kumare" is the term that we use to call the mother of our godchild. I had to Google that to be sure. Hahaha, my kumare is my ex-coworker and she is known to have a talent for just about anything artsy. She can sing, dance, do arts and crafts and she has a knack for organizing big parties too. I became a godparent (this is an old person's confession 😝) to her first-born Zane, who we fondly refer to as "Z." By now, Z is already 4 years old and he now has a baby sister, Vee "V," who celebrated her Christening as well.

Just look at these setups! The theme was Out of this World and it delivered - to infinity and beyond! The dress code was any shade of blue or violet as we make ourselves fit in the galactic venue that they had in store for us. Here are some of the details of the star-filled night:

Most Filipinos are sweet tooths, that's why desserts are always a good idea. Essa, my kumare, always makes it a point to have a dessert bar at the parties that she throws. She wants her guests sweet cravings to be filled!

Everyone did not go home empty-handed that night as they also made sure that guests have souvenirs to take home for the kids and kids-at-heart! I managed to win one myself as I joined a "Bring Me" game. I used the notebook to write all of our wedding plans then. Thank you mommy Essa for the giveaway!

Here goes the most-awaited part - eating time! There was plenty for everybody. Food has a special place in Filipino culture as we view it not only as a source of fuel for our energy needs, but it also brings families together at the dining table. It celebrates birth, milestones, and togetherness. That's why it's really hard to maintain a healthy diet here in the PH. Food is life!

Perhaps, this was the kids' highlight of the night. Essa and her family invited professional bubble dancers to the party. I felt like being a kid again and of course, I had to try it for myself. It was thrilling and fun for sure. Here I am with another godchild of mine, Aubrey.

Here is Essa's beautiful family with Stormtroopers as their bodyguards. Thank you for inviting me 😄

Everyone my age is either getting engaged, getting married, or having their babies welcomed into the Christian world. Heck, I even got married last month 😂 From someone who used to think that these things were for adults, I am now the adult.

For a while in the past, I didn't think that I would picture myself to be a mom. I used to think that being a mom entailed a lot of responsibilities and emotional maturity to be fit to become one. This is still true though. But people around me have shown that it is possible to embrace this responsibility and have fun with it at the same time. They need not be mutually exclusive.

Essa is one mom that I see is having fun with motherhood. This was the second time I was invited to the birthday party of my godchild and everything was big. It was amazing. Let me take you through the first birthday party of Z too.

The recent celebration was at Marina Seaview Restaurant in Lapu-Lapu City while this first one was at Mactan Waterfront Airport Hotel and Casino. Whereas the first 4th one's theme was Out of This World, the first one was Panda-themed and everything was just as big as the recent one!

PS: The photos are not taken by me, I have asked permission from my Kumare to use their photos from the event.

Look at baby Z as a baby panda here. He is still so cute. He loves music and only loves one food in the world - eggs!

The set-up was panda-reffic! The host wore a clown costume and they invited a magician then. If you look further to the right of the photo, you'll also see Essa's signature dessert bar. This mom knows her guests really well.

Here are my ex-coworkers and me having an awkward smile. I'm still awkward and not ready to be a mom yet. For now, I will still enjoy my role as a godparent to my adorable, egg-loving godchild, Z. I hope you grow up to be as loving and happy as your momma Essa, Z. May all of your heart's desires come true. Ninang is here for you 😍.
