Foggy Sunday: Harvesting Corn and Planting Cassava

The farmer's happiness is to receive rain for his crops

Hello Hivers! Its a great Sunday we have here and I am very happy that the rain finally came after weeks of praying.

Plans changed

I was very tired and fell asleep hard last night that I did not notice the rain came. The rain came slowly, a little more than just a drizzle from and it went like that until morning.

My wife and I already have plans today, asssuming the weather was hot; we planned on waking up early and cook rice so the boys will be able to continue harvesting corn, while I and my wife will go plant cassava and then come back before 12 so we will have lunch together.

Anyway, we had to change plans as the sky was very gloomy in the morning and drizzles were still coming from time to time. I had lots of things running in my mind and found myself sweeping the outside part of the house while manifesting things to happen.

After my daughters left towards church, I helped my wife so the laundry and we finished early. It was already 12 noon when we finished washing clothes no wonder I was getting hungry. I asked my son to buy egg, the wife cooked them while I hung the clothes on an indoor clothes hanger. Most of them were uniforms and I bet my kids would go to school not wearing them tomorrow.

Going back to Plan A: Doing the mots important first.

Soon after lunch, the sun showed so we decided to go to the farm. Yoi suggested we go to the corn (since the boys will not be around tomorrow for school and I will have no one to help me around) and bring them the Nanay's place first before we plant cassava and so it is what we did.

These are the corns the boys harvested yesterday, and we were not able to sack because the rain came in early. It was hot during noon and so we left them on the ground, and covered them with sacks. Our strategy was effective because there were only a few corn cubs that got wet after the rain.

But what's worse is that the red ants found food in them and they made it hard for us to sack as the ants think we are stealing thier food and bit our hands and feet, this also why I did not let my son come near, and he was our photographer.

Image above was taken before Czak was bit by ants and we advised him to stay away and he was bery happy to have time to watch videos on my phone.

Yoi continued sacking while I slowly carried the corn into the truck; and felt very blessed to gather 6 sacks of corn today.

Proceed to plan Rain or Shine

On the way to Nanay's house, the sky is looking gloomy again but we decided to continue our plan rain or shine, we don't have a choice anyway, it's either we do it today or never at all.

The hill was slowly covered by a fog, worry build up in me but my faith was stronger, instead, we even appreciated its beauty.

As we came closer, the fog is covering more and more tall things around us and it was marvellous! We don't see this every day!

Stopping to where I left the Cassava stalks last time, we found out that more than half of the planting materials are already dead. There was a long time that the rain did not come and that explains it. We segregated the ones that are still usable and on the the field I went.

Then I saw my wife's cousin and asked if I could borrow cassava stalks and he said yes. I immediately went to get some and chopped them so we could plant later. My wife dropped the stalks and I helped coverering them later

As I sit and chopped cassava stalks, I observed the sky took some photos of me and my wife with the heavy fog on the background

It's really nive that my wife is always there to support me in everyway she can and that way, we make chores easier and lighter

It was getting darker, I was about to give up of the unfinished work and go home, then my wife came to help me cover the stalks on the ground and we continued to do it until 6 pm. We are getting Hungry already, good thing we bought food and brought them with us. It was good to have snacks after a very tiring work.

Too bad my daughters had another walk. Hoping someday they will be with us too.
