Conquering Negative Self-Talk in 2024

in Hive PHlast year

Kamusta sa lahat, maligayang bagong taon mga kaibigan!

It feels so great to be back here once again. The blogging contest for the new month definitely presented some soul searching questions. And I will give my best attempt at answering two of them—the ones that I can answer, that is.

What’s one thing you’ll let go of this year? And Why?

I love this question because, at first glance, I couldn’t come up with an answer. “Something I’ll let go of?” That’s a new one. I’d been so focused on learning new things and trying to discover new and helpful habits to adopt that I never really stopped to ask myself what I would let go of.

And when you think about the full picture, you can’t necessarily add new characters if you’re not willing to let go of the toxic ones we possess. This caused me to do some introspection, and at the end, I came up with two answers.

Negative Self-Talk

After weeks of listening to self-help podcasts, I realized that I have a silent voice that lives in my head. And in certain situations, the voice helps me navigate life, but in other situations, the voice is often a bully.

It’s discouraging enough to have external bullies—people who belittle you. But when your own voice is the dreaded bully, that becomes a huge problem. I realized that sometimes I don’t cut myself some much-needed slack. Sometimes, I tend to get rude and disrespectful to myself, for whatever reason, without being aware of it.

So if I were to choose one thing to get rid of this new year, it would definitely be negative self-talk. These days, I try to be conscious and cautious of the words I utter to myself.

Whenever I catch myself making self-deprecating jokes or just being plain mean, I usually stop midway and caution myself. And so far, it’s been going well.

Something else that I will try to get rid of is the fear of failure. There are so many ideas that usually pop up in my head, but because of my rude inner dialogue, I tend to disregard these precious gems. So for the rest of the year, I will try my best to learn how to embrace failure instead of being scared of it.

At the end of the day, failure is a part of the journey to success, so in a way, it’s kind of inevitable.

What new hobbies or skills would you like to explore this year?

A new skill I would love and need to perfect is “human relations.”. Being an introvert, I tend to find it difficult to talk to strangers or even to carry on conversations with people. This has been rather detrimental to my growth in society, especially now that I am new to the workforce or labor market.

It is tantamount to my overall success in life that I learn how to relate to people of all ages in different social settings.

So in case you have any book recommendations that would help with this, kindly leave them below in the comment section. I would appreciate that a lot.

And these are my answers to some of the questions in the Hive Philippines January Blogging Contest. @kingsleyy and @fashtioluwa, you guys should definitely check it out and consider participating☺🤗.

I admire your honesty and commitment to stop doing the negative self talk. It’s hard to let go of a habit, but it will really make you a better person, and a happy one that is. Instead of negativity, try to cheer yourself up or say words of praise - anything positive that would make your mood better. If you have a good mood, you’ll do better and be better.

If you have a good mood, you’ll do better and be better.

Exactly. We attract what we put into the universe.
Thank you Witty for reading my work, I really appreciate!

Omg that negative self talk, that's really hard to change, and letting it go will be a lot harder. But if there's a will, there's a way so good luck on that. I'm still not ready to let go of that part of me coz in some ways, it help me too to move on, skl, hehe.

And regarding that new hobby or skills that you want to acquire, once you succeed on it please share it to me too, like tips or suggestion or what coz I badly need that too right now haha.

I mean I guess it depends on the context in which it's being used. But I think overtime, letting go of negative self-talk and probably substituting it with something more positive, will definitely help inn the long run.

Hopefully, by the end of the year I'll have improved in my people skills😄. And sure, I'll share the things that helped with you. One of us already suggested to smile more so can you try doing that too.

Thanks for stopping by and reading my blog Ruffatotmeee! I appreciate you

Accepting imperfection is always liberating. Personally, I take my own struggles, mistakes, and challenges as something to learn from. I'm not perfect and never will be, not a saint either, but at the end of the day I try my best to do no evi, see no evil or say no evil.

this one is a good read and I hope you'll have a great year ahead of you!

PS: before you go anywhere think of the word "smile", keep that in mind and just hold a smile, and you will see how it will radiate where ever and it would greatly help with your human relation goals! :) so yea. Smile! 😉

I agree with you. I've been on a journey of accepting my imperfections for sometime now, and it is a long one. But I notice that gradually, I've gotten more comfortable with who I am, and I have learned to accept the things that I can't change.

Thank you so much for this wonderful tip. Now that I think about it, smiling does make people more gravitated to you.

Thank you for reading my work, it truly means a lot! Have a great day

So you're introvert too?
I'm yet to see an extrovert that agrees to be extrovert. Lol😅

Nice write up.
I'm joining this prompt ASAP.
I hope it's not expiring soon

Lol, they don't need to say it for you to know. It's usually easy to tell when someone's extrovert.

Thanks for reading my post dear. Fell free to join it, but be quick, it expires on the 31st of this month. So in three days.

To some extent sha. I mean, not everyone.
With the little time I've known you, you are someone that pick words...less say introvert on keyboard because I haven't seen or heard you talk on real life.

For me, I'm very verbal with my keyboard but offline, I don't talk out😅

No wahala, I'm joining the contest
