I often see people in charge of things they have no or very little understanding of, how did they end up in such positions ? By knowing and getting along with the right people, competence is just a bonus in these cases and definitely not a requirement. On the blockchain competence is way harder to evaluate in most cases ( how competent am I at shitposting ? if I would ask 10 people I would probably get 10 different answers ), however knowing the right people remains as valuable.
I don't think whale hunting is as popular as it was 4 years ago but we don't get as many new users as we used to get back then. Even if it's way easier now to get the attention of whales I still prefer to interact mostly with those that make me smile, not because I'm a picky pleb but because I like to have as much fun as I can with the little time I can afford to spend on chain.

You have whale friends? Is there any sniffing involved?
I like to think I have friends, it's better than to face the reality of a lonely crypto pleb :P. Also smell can't be felt via internet as far as I know :)))
I like to think as a symbiotic relationship and not really hunt arena. Everyone needs help in order to progress in life, being that financially, task wise or even just story telling kind of learning cases.
When I started, many years ago, I would never imagine to reach where I got into. And to be honest, that very rarely involved catching the ride of someone, but today is something that I would consider a very important aspect of keeping consistency and attendance. Helping each other and collaborating is an important aspect of any blockchain, all alone the HIVE one.
