Russia is unfit to compete on virtually any world sporting stage. The main federations have decided to "punish" it by alleging the massive use of banned substances in competitions. This has caused us to miss out on a few good performances at World Championships, Olympic Games and so on.

La última actuación olímpica en Tokio dejó evidencia de la gran camada que venía en camino, pues lograron apoderarse del segundo lugar con un equipo muy joven, a diferencia de otros rankeados que iban con equipos más maduros.
A pesar de las sanciones, Rusia se ha mantenido con la preparación de sus atletas gracias al desarrollo de sus ligas locales. Allí ahora hay dos cubanos de la selección nacional, y aclaro que pertenecen a la selección, pues hay otros que también actúan allí, pero no están acogidos a ella.
Osniel Melgarejo, quien jugara sus primeros años como profesional en Argentina, luego en Francia e Italia, y Marlon Yant que jugó hasta la temporada pasada en uno de los clubes más importantes de Italia, son los jóvenes en cuestión. Quizás hubiese sido más apreciado por los aficionados cubanos que se quedaran en Italia, pero mi opinión personal es que jugar allí les será magnífico para el equipo Cuba.

Pues el mundo se ha acostumbrado a no contar con Rusia en los principales eventos de voly, pero la realidad es que en el país eslavo no se ha bajado el nivel, así que para estos jóvenes batirse en esta poderosa liga, significa un salto cualitativo importante, y por qué no, económico también.
Tendrán que vérselas con bloqueos muy altos y rápidos, convertiste en el centro del recibo ante servicios bien poderosos (se sabe que los cubanos tienen su talón de Aquiles en el recibo), y sobre todo trabajar fuerte en el entrenamiento físico. Puras mejoras veo a futuro, que por supuesto, deben hacerse sentir en la selección cubana, aunque como siempre decimos, nada está asegurado.
En el Oriente lejano también está el capitán de la selección. Miguel Ángel López, o el cubano volador, como fue bautizado en Brasil, aunque también tuvo sus inicios en Argentina. Por cierto, la liga argentina fue un paso muy importante en el camino de los muchachos que hoy son mayoría en el equipo Cuba. Pues Angelito salió desde Sada Cruzeiro y ancló en Japón, en unos de los clubes top del momento en el país Nipón.

They will have to deal with very high and fast blocking, become the center of the receiving in front of very powerful serves (it is known that Cubans have their Achilles heel in the receiving), and above all work hard in physical training. I see pure improvements in the future, which of course, should be felt in the Cuban national team, although as we always say, nothing is guaranteed.
In the Far East there is also the captain of the national team. Miguel Angel Lopez, or the flying Cuban, as he was baptized in Brazil, although he also had his beginnings in Argentina. By the way, the Argentine league was a very important step in the path of the boys who today are the majority of the Cuban team. Angelito left from Sada Cruzeiro and anchored in Japan, in one of the top clubs of the moment in the Nippon country.

Imagen tomada de PixabayMe asusté mucho en las primeras fechas luego de una lesión que tuvo en uno de los partidos, que lo obligó a abandonar la sala en aquel momento. Afortunadamente, fue solo un rasguño, y pudo seguir jugando en la fecha siguiente. Yo creí que jugar en esta liga no iba a ser favorable para él, pues subestimé la liga sin conocerla. Es verdad que la selección nacional japonesa es de las más fuertes hoy día, pero no creí que a nivel de liga también tuviera esa calidad.
Lo cierto es que sí es difícil, sobre todo por el ritmo de juego tan veloz que llevan y por la cantidad de partidos en el fin de semana, que son dos en vez de uno, como en el resto de las demás ligas. Viendo eso pensé que no le iba a ir bien, o al menos no tan rápido, pero una vez más me equivoqué, pues el capitán cubano, está entre los primeros jugadores del torneo, y es ahora mismo un puntal importante (sin ser el único) en su equipo.
¿Saben qué significa eso, amigos? Pues, más mejoras para el equipo cubano, que, por demás, el año que entra tienen dos buenos torneos por delante: Liga de Naciones y Mundial. Espero que no me vuelva a equivocar como lo hice con López y su andar en tierras niponas, y el crecimiento de estas figuras mencionadas, y de los demás jugadores que se desempeñan en Italia y demás ligas, rindan los frutos que tanto estamos esperando los fanáticos del vóley cubano.

Seeing that I thought it was not going to go well, or at least not so fast, but once again I was wrong, because the Cuban captain, is among the top players in the tournament, and is now an important pillar (without being the only one) in his team.
Do you know what that means, friends? Well, more improvements for the Cuban team, which, by the way, has two good tournaments ahead of them next year: Nations League and World Cup. I hope I am not mistaken again as I was with Lopez and his journey in Japan, and the growth of these figures mentioned, and the other players who play in Italy and other leagues, yield the fruits that we Cuban volleyball fans are waiting for so much.
