Equipo Cuba 2013 || Team Cuba 2013
En los últimos días se ha comentado mucho en Cuba y en las redes sociales sobre el posible equipo Cuba que representaría a la isla en el próximo Clásico Mundial de Béisbol en 2023. También semanas atrás se creó en Estados Unidos, por parte de un grupo de cubanos y ex peloteros, la Asociación de Peloteros Cubanos Profesionales, la cual estaría al frente del equipo que representaría a los peloteros cubanos que no están asociados a la Federación cubana de Béisbol. Por todo lo anterior hoy les traigo mi equipo Cuba ideal, con peloteros de todos lados sin importar creencias políticas ni la liga donde juegan, además serían peloteros nacidos en Cuba porque existen casos de peloteros de ascendencia cubana como Nolan Arenado y Nick Castellanos que no incluiré. El equipo sería de 30 jugadores, como sucede en los clásicos mundiales, dividido en: tres receptores, ocho jugadores de cuadro, seis jardineros y trece lanzadores.

For all of the above, today I bring you my ideal Cuba team, with players from all over the world regardless of their political beliefs or the league where they play, in addition they would be players born in Cuba because there are cases of players of Cuban descent such as Nolan Arenado and Nick Castellanos that I will not include. The team would be made up of 30 players, as in the world classics, divided into: three catchers, eight infielders, six outfielders and thirteen pitchers.
Receptores || Catchers
Yasmani Grandal
Uno de los mejores receptores del béisbol es, sin dudas Yasmani Grandal (Chicago White Sox), con una ofensiva envidiable y una defensa de las mejores de la liga (si no es la mejor) sería mi receptor titular. Como segundo detrás del plato llevaría a Lorenzo Quintana (Miami Marlins), el pinareño posee un buen bate y una defensa decente, sería de los dos receptores sustitutos, el más ofensivo. Como cátcher defensivo, mi elección sería Ariel Martínez (Dragones de Chunichi, JPN), el joven jugador aún no desarrollado todo su potencial, pero su guante es de primer nivel.
One of the best catchers in baseball is undoubtedly Yasmani Grandal (Chicago White Sox), with an enviable offense and one of the best defenses in the league (if not the best) he would be my starting catcher. As second behind the plate I would take Lorenzo Quintana (Miami Marlins), the native of Pinar del Rio has a good bat and a decent defense, he would be the most offensive of the two substitute catchers. As defensive catcher, my choice would be Ariel Martinez (Chunichi Dragons, JPN), the young player has not yet developed his full potential, but his glove is top notch.
Infield
Yuli Gurriel
Mi cuadro titular sería: José Abreu (Chicago White Sox) en primera base, Yuli Gurriel (Astros de Houston) en segunda base, José Iglesias (Colorado Rookies) en el campo corto y Yandi Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) en la antesala. Abreu es un bate de poder y contacto, aunque su defensa no es élite, lo coloco ahí porque el puesto de designado ya tiene dueño. El Yuli, que ha jugado toda su carrera en MLB, sus mejores años en el TEAM Cuba fueron en la segunda almohadilla por lo que ya conoce la posición. En el campo corto, José Iglesias es uno de los mejores jugadores defensivos en esa posición, aunque por su bajo perfil no acapara todos los focos que merece. En las últimas dos temporadas su ofensiva ha mejorado notablemente. En tercer base Yandi Díaz (Rays de Tampa) es mi selección. Su capacidad para embasarse es asombrosa, aunque no bota muchas pelotas es un bateador de contacto y un defensor por encima de la media.
De cambio tendría al utility Aledmys Díaz (Astros de Houston) que puede moverse por todo el infield, además de tener un buen contacto y poder ocasional. Adeiny Echevarría (Chiba Lotte Marines, JPN) sería el campo corto sustituto (también podría hacerlo en la tercera base), su excelente defensa y sus años de experiencia al más alto nivel lo hacen un jugador interesante. Dayan Viciedo sería el recambio de Pito Abreu en primera base. Un bateador de primer nivel que mezcla fuerza y contacto sería un bateador emergente interesante. Yoan Moncada (Chicago White Sox) es un jugador versátil a la defensa, y a la ofensiva aún tiene mucho margen de mejora, con el plus de que es un bateador ambidiestro. Puede jugar segunda base, pero su posición natural desde que llegó a MLB ha sido el tercer cojín.
My starting lineup would be: Jose Abreu (Chicago White Sox) at first base, Yuli Gurriel (Houston Astros) at second base, Jose Iglesias (Colorado Rookies) at shortstop and Yandi Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) at shortstop. Abreu is a power and contact bat, although his defense is not elite, I place him there because the designated hitter position is already owned. Yuli, who has played his entire career in MLB, his best years in TEAM Cuba were at second base, so he already knows the position. At shortstop, Jose Iglesias is one of the best defensive players at that position, although his low profile does not get him the spotlight he deserves. In the last two seasons, his offense has improved significantly. Third baseman Yandi Diaz (Tampa Bay Rays) is my pick. His ability to get on base is amazing, although he doesn't bounce many balls he is an above average contact hitter and defender.
As a change he would have utilityman Aledmys Díaz (Houston Astros) who can move all over the infield, besides having good contact and occasional power. Adeiny Echevarría (Chiba Lotte Marines, JPN) would be the replacement shortstop (he could also do it at third base), his excellent defense and years of experience at the highest level make him an interesting player. Dayan Viciedo would be Pito Abreu's replacement at first base. A leadoff hitter who mixes strength and contact would be an interesting emerging hitter. Yoan Moncada (Chicago White Sox) is a versatile player defensively, and offensively he still has a lot of room for improvement, with the added bonus of being an ambidextrous hitter. He can play second base, but his natural position since coming to MLB has been third base.
Outfield
Randy Arozarena
Posiblemente la posición donde más talento se agrupa es el outfield, tanto jugadores de MLB como de otras ligas tiene el nivel suficiente para hacer el hipotético equipo. Para el jardín derecho me decanto por Randy Arozarena (Rays de Tampa). El novato de año del 2021 es un jugador increíble, capaz de hacer cosas en el diamante nunca antes vista. Jugador de cinco herramientas sería el hombre proa de la alineación. Luis Robert Moiran (Chicago White Sox), también es un pelotero de cinco herramientas, sería mi center field. El avileño tiene poder, un excelente guante y una velocidad extraordinaria. En el izquierdo estaría Jordan Álvarez (Astros de Houston). Como defensor no es lo mejor disponible para esa posición, pero su bate no puede quedar fuera de ningún equipo en el mundo.
Como reserva estarían tres extraordinarios jugadores que podrían ser titulares sin duda alguna. Lourdes Gurriel (Toronto Blue Jays), quien también puede desempeñarse como jugador de cuadro, sería el remplazo defensivo para Jordan. El menor de los Gurriel es uno de los mejores defensores de su posición en la liga y su ofensiva mejora cada año. Yasiel Puig (Kiwoon Heroes, KOR), como remplazo en el jardín derecho. El cienfueguero tiene un brazo que es uno de los mejores del béisbol y sus espectaculares jugadas a la defensiva siempre son noticias en el mundo beisbolero. Mientras se mantuvo alejado de problemas extradeportivos en su carrera su ofensiva fue bien productiva. Jorge Soler (Miami Marlins) tendría la función de Bateador Designado, aunque también puede alternar en los jardines. El Crudo es uno de los peloteros con más fuerza en MLB, como demuestra su liderato de jonrones en la campaña 2019.
Possibly the position where more talent is grouped is the outfield, both MLB players and players from other leagues have the sufficient level to make the hypothetical team. For right field I opt for Randy Arozarena (Tampa Rays). The 2021 rookie of the year is an incredible player, capable of doing things on the diamond never seen before. Five-tool player would be the front man of the lineup. Luis Robert Moiran (Chicago White Sox), also a five-tool player, would be my center fielder. He has power, an excellent glove and extraordinary speed. In left field would be Jordan Alvarez (Houston Astros). As a defender he is not the best available for that position, but his bat cannot be left out of any team in the world.
As reserves there would be three extraordinary players who could be starters without a doubt. Lourdes Gurriel (Toronto Blue Jays), who can also serve as an infielder, would be the defensive replacement for Jordan. The younger Gurriel is one of the best defenders at his position in the league and his offense is improving every year. Yasiel Puig (Kiwoon Heroes, KOR), as a replacement in right field. The Cienfuegos native has an arm that is one of the best in baseball and his spectacular defensive plays are always news in the baseball world. As long as he stayed away from extra-sporting problems in his career, his offense was very productive. Jorge Soler (Miami Marlins) would have the role of Designated Hitter, although he can also alternate in the outfield. Lanzadores || Pitchers
Raisel Iglesias
La rotación abridora constaría con 5 abridores, encabezada por Vladimir Gutiérrez (Cincinati Reds). Luego estarían Odrisamer Despaigne(KT Wiz, KOR), Ariel Miranda (Doosan Bears, KOR), Yohan Oviedo (Cardenales de San Luis) y Yoanys Quiala (Leones de Caracas). El pinareño Gutiérrez tuvo una buena primera campaña en la gran carpa. Posee una gran velocidad y una gran efectividad en cuanto a ponches, aunque debe mejorar su control. Por su parte Despaigne y Ariel, con experiencia en grandes ligas, están teniendo notables actuaciones con sus equipos en Asia. Miranda fue seleccionado el mejor pitcher de la liga coreana el pasado año. Por su parte Despaigne fue seleccionado el jugador más valioso en dicha liga. Yohan Oviedo es un joven con un gran futuro por delante con la organización de San Luis, aunque su desempeño no ha sido el mejor, tiene un futuro promisorio en la liga. El holguinero Quiala no tuvo suerte en la MLB, pero su talento ha quedado demostrado en todas las ligas en las que ha participado, llegando a ser uno de los mejores pitcher de la liga mexicana en campañas anteriores.
El bullpen es uno de los puntos fuertes de este equipo. Varios brazos zurdos de puntería serían seleccionables. Livan Moinelo(Fukuoka Softbank Hawks, JPN), Nestor Cortes (New York Yankees) y Roenis Elías ( Seattle Marines). Moinelo posee una recta rápida por encima de las 95 millas y una curva pronunciada que lo hace un lanzador dominante, además de poseer un tremendo control en sus lanzamientos. Cortes y Elías son dos zurdos con vasta experiencia en el béisbol del más alto nivel. Como relevistas largos tendría al Yariel Rodriguez (Dragones de Chunichi, JPN) y a Cionel Pérez (Orioles de Baltimore). El camagüeyano Rodríguez tiene un brazo fuerte y puede caminar varios innings en un partido. Cionel, por su parte, es un zurdo de buena velocidad, aunque su control debe mejorar. Para los últimos tres innings, dejo a Raidel Martínez (Dragones de Chunichi) para el séptimo, Aroldis Chapman (New York Yankees) para el octavo y para el noveno, al mejor cerrador cubano de la última campaña, Raisel Iglesias (Anaheim Angels). Los tres son pitcher supersónicos que sobrepasan las 98 millas con facilidad además de tener un alto promedio de ponches.
The starting rotation would consist of 5 starters, led by Vladimir Gutierrez (Cincinati Reds). Then there would be Odrisamer Despaigne (KT Wiz, KOR), Ariel Miranda (Doosan Bears, KOR), Yohan Oviedo (Cardenales de San Luis) and Yoanys Quiala (Leones de Caracas). Gutiérrez, from Pinar del Río, had a good first season in the big top. He has great speed and a great effectiveness in terms of strikeouts, although he must improve his control. Despaigne and Ariel, with experience in the big leagues, are having notable performances with their teams in Asia. Miranda was selected the best pitcher in the Korean league last year. Despaigne was selected the most valuable player in that league. The Camaguey-born Rodriguez has a strong arm and can walk several innings in a game. Cionel, meanwhile, is a lefty with good speed, although his control needs to improve. For the last three innings, I left Raidel Martinez (Chunichi Dragons) for the seventh, Aroldis Chapman (New York Yankees) for the eighth and for the ninth, the best Cuban closer of last season, Raisel Iglesias (Anaheim Angels). All three are supersonic pitchers who exceed 98 miles with ease and have a high strikeout average.
