Vamos hacer un resumen de los mejores momentos de este compromiso.
We will make a summary of the best moments of this engagement.
After the opening whistle, the Belgian team had the ball and made the Italian team uncomfortable, as they could not find their feet. As the minutes passed, the match began to even out. There was constant ball control by both teams and a constant back and forth (English style soccer). The Italian team began to have the ball, and to play their characteristic game. They played with their wingers. On several occasions Italy looked to open up on the left side with Spinazzola. He made several triangulations with Insigne and Verratti. As we saw in the match against Austria. An Italy that since the start of the Euro has caused a lot of damage on this flank. At minute 13, after a set piece, Leonardo Bonucci scored what looked like the first goal for the Italian national team, all from a set piece cross. First Chiellini touches it while being advanced and, immediately after, Di Lorenzo does the same. Bonucci was the last to push it in, but immediately the goal was disallowed because Bonucci was offside. In the 24th minute came a very good one for the Belgians. De Bruyne's left-footed shot from the edge of the area was cleared by goalkeeper Donnarumma flying to his right. A minute later came another chance for Belgium, this time at the feet of Lukaku, after a counter-attack, Romelu hit it low and again the goalkeeper Donnarumma saved it with his hand and sent it to the corner. Italy continued to respond and looking for the rival goal, and in the 32nd minute the Azzurri scored at the feet of Barella, the Inter player. He received the ball inside the box surrounded by three opponents, dribbled Oliver Atom and with a touch with his left foot and released a right-footed shot beating Courtois. In the 43rd minute, Italy's second would come after a gem of a performance by Lorenzo Insigne. He started from the left and cut inside, he got to the edge of the area and hit the inside corner of the net. What a goal! Italy thought they would go to the break with the score (0-2). But, at 44', the referee awarded Belgium a penalty. And so Lukaku converted. And that was the end of the first half.
In the second half, Italy dominated the game, they had the ball, they had a good partnership. And they were superior. Belgium, when they had the ball, tried to counterattack. In the 61st minute came one of the clearest for the Belgian team, after a cross from De Bruyne that Lukaku finished at the far post. All this, barely a meter away from the goal. The ball goes in... But Spinazzola surprisingly managed to pull it out with his back turned. In the 70th minute Belgium came close again but could not score the longed-for goal. In the 77th minute one of Italy's best players in this tournament, Spinazzola, went off with an injury (he ruptured his Achilles tendon). And after tears, he had to leave on a stretcher. Doku, Belgium's most influential player, tried his best, and in the 84th minute he almost scored a great goal. The referee gave 5 minutes, Belgium was looking for it until the last minute. And they had one last corner, even Courtois went up to shoot, Vermaelen headed, but it went out. The referee blew the final whistle, and Roberto Mancini's team celebrated their passage to the semifinals.
Aquí les dejaré algunas estadísticas del partido:
Here are some statistics of the match:
Analysis: From my point of view it was a great game. There was a constant flow of soccer. Back and forth from both teams. I liked the pressure that Italy exerted all over the field, that characteristic collective play. And that flow down the flanks, I think that's the strength of the Italian team. They are very good in all their lines, and in this match they were not out of place. Chiellini did an excellent job neutralizing Inter Milan striker Lukaku. And Bonucci gave the Azzurri a lot of outlet from below. In the middle of the pitch Jorginho did a very good job of handling the Azzurri strings in several parts of the match. Barela had an excellent game. That back and forth, and the great goal he was able to score and with that he put his team in the semi-final. I liked all the players, Immobile I think was the one who appeared the least, he did not have a great game. Since Mancini took the reins of the national team, Italy has a different face. They are always looking for the opponent's goal. And they are very good at that offensive game. We see when a player loses the ball, how they always go to the close always mostly two players. Undoubtedly when Italy wants it is lethal, when they are asked to defend they do it well, as well as attack.
The Belgian national team, ranked No. 1 in the world, still has a debt to pay. For the fourth time, they remain in the quarter-finals of a major tournament (Euro/World Cup). What Belgium lacks, despite having an extraordinary team. They are unable to advance in the major cups. And they have yet to win a national team tournament. I would like to highlight the great work of "corner", a very unbalanced player, who even generated some dangerous plays. Still, they tried, and never stopped looking for the equalizer after that 1-2. The Belgian national team is eliminated.
Mancini's Italy will face Luis Enrique's Spain in Munich. After tying Switzerland 1-1 and going to extra time and penalties. They managed to advance to the semifinals after a 1-3 score. Interesting match we will have between these two teams, and that somehow manage a rivalry in European soccer. Spain grew as the matches went by. And Italy always proving to be a strong candidate to win the title.
