¿Cuántas sorpresas verdad?
So many surprises, aren't there?
After the qualification of the teams to the round of 16, there was a lot of excitement as we would have very good matches. Let's remember what were the clashes that took place in the round of 16, with their respective results.
GALES vs DINAMARCA
On June 26 of this year, the first match of the round of 16 of Euro 2020 will be played. At the Amsterdam Arena stadium in the Netherlands, home stadium of the Dutch Ajax team. A match where the Danish national team, (and we must keep an eye on this team), managed to beat Gareth Bale's Welsh team (0-4). The first goal came at the feet of 23-year-old Kasper Dolberg, who made his debut, and in what a way he did. With two goals in the 27th and 48th minutes. The third goal was scored by Joakim Mæhle, the Italian Atalanta player, in the 88th minute, and Martin Braithwaite closed the scoring in the 90th minute plus 4 minutes of stoppage time. Thus the Danish team won and advanced to the quarterfinals.
ITALIA vs AUSTRIA
On June 26th of this year, the second match of the round of 16 would take place. At the emblematic Wembley Stadium in the city of London (England). In this match Austria would face the team led by Roberto Mancini, who in 90 minutes could not beat them. The goals would come at minute 95' through the player of Juventus FC of Italy. Ten minutes later, at minute 105', the second goal for the Italians would come, this time by Matteo Pessina. At minute 114' would come the discount of Austria, Saša Kalajdžić scored, but it was not enough for the Austrians to forge the penalty shootout, and thus the Italian team won and advanced to the quarterfinals.
PAÍSES BAJOS vs REPÚBLICA CHECA
On June 27, these two teams met at the Ferenc Puskás Stadium in Budapest, Hungary. The Clockwork Orange came into this match as favorites after their good performance in the group stage. But the Czechs surprised and left the Dutch team with no ideas, and they were defeated (0-2). The goals came in the 68th and 80th minute. Tomáš Holeš and Patrik Schick scored the two goals. After this surprise upset the Czech Republic advanced to the quarterfinals.
BÉLGICA vs PORTUGAL
Two of the favorites to win this tournament met on June 27. At the La Cartuja de Sevilla stadium in Seville (Spain). Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal and the current champion of the tournament, tried, but could not and ended up losing (1-0). In this match we saw a Belgian team that did not create many scoring opportunities, and with few shots on goal, in one of them would come the first goal in the feet of Thorgan Hazard at the minute. The Portuguese said goodbye to the tournament and the Belgian team advanced to the next stage.
CROACIA vs ESPAÑA
On Monday, June 28 this year, one of the best matches of the round of 16 was played at the Parken Stadion stadium in Indre Østerbro in the city of Copenhagen. The runner-up of the World Cup and Luis Enrique's Spain played a match with a lot of vibes, emotions and goals. (3-5). In the 20th minute after an own goal by Pedri, the Barcelona player. The equalizer for the Spaniards came in the 38th minute through Pablo Sarabia. Spain's second and third goals were scored at 57' and 77' by César Azpilicueta and Ferran Torres. With this result, the Spaniards felt comfortable, but Croatia did not give up and would score at minute 85' Mislav Oršić would convert. With 5 minutes left, the Croatians were motivated and surprisingly, at minute 90+2' of added time, Croatia equalized through Atalanta's Mario Pašalić. Thus, the game would go to extra time. Luis Enrique's team went all out, and although the Croatians had a very close one, which passed close to Unai's post, at 100' (Álvaro Morata) and 103' (Mikel Oyarzabal) minutes, Spain would close the tie with the fourth and fifth goals. And so Spain celebrated its passage to the quarterfinals.
FRANCIA vs SUIZA
That same Monday, June 28 at the Arena Națională stadium in Bucharest, Romania. The Swiss and the French measured forces, for what would be another electrifying clash. Where there was everything. After 90 minutes the score would be (3-3) Switzerland would surprisingly go up on the scoreboard in the 15th minute through striker Haris Seferović. France's lead would come in the 57th and 59th minutes through Karim Benzema. The French had woken up, and were being superior. In the 75th minute, the third goal was scored by Paul Pogba, who scored one of the best goals of the match and of the tournament. For many, everything was already given, France as favorite was winning (3-1), but the surprises in this Euro would continue and in the 81st minute the Swiss would score the second goal. Again Haris Seferović. And in the 90th minute we were all stunned, when Switzerland equalized through Mario Gavranović to force extra time. Nobody could believe it, in the extra time France tried, and Switzerland playing very well, managed to take this commitment to the first penalty shootout of the tournament, where the Swiss would advance with a score (4-5) and thus the world champion, and big favorite of the tournament would be eliminated. And Switzerland with much joy celebrated their pass to the quarterfinals.
INGLATERRA vs ALEMANIA
Yesterday, one of the great powers of world soccer, England and Germany played against each other in this match, a match between two teams with a lot of history. At Wembley Stadium in London, the stadium where the final will be played. In major tournaments (Euro/World Cup), they had faced each other 7 times. Both have won 2 and drawn the remaining three. Although the Germans qualified on penalties in two of those three draws. Gareth Southgate, England's coach, starred in one of those penalty shootouts in 1996, in which Gareth was the executioner for his national team, missing a penalty. 25 years after Southgate managed to qualify England to the quarterfinals of the tournament and thus take revenge against his bête noire Germany. (2-0) 75' (Raheem Sterling) 86' (Harry Kane) would be the score that would give the victory to the English.
SUECIA VS UCRANIA
This interesting match took place yesterday to close what would be the qualifiers for the quarterfinals. At the Hampden Park stadium in Scotland. The score was in favor of the Ukrainians (1-2). Ucra 27'(Oleksandr Zinchenko).Sue 43'(Emil Forsberg) The team led by Andriy Shevchenko, former player and golden ball. He managed to get his national team into the quarterfinals of this prestigious cup. With the tie one to one, they would go to extra time, and when the referee was about to whistle to go to the panels, Ukraine's goal would come, very exciting, after a cross to the area, Artem Dovbyk would score with a header. And in this way Ukraine passed to the quarterfinals.
These round of 16 will undoubtedly be remembered, who would have thought that teams like France, the Netherlands, Portugal, and Croatia would be eliminated. But that's soccer, completely unpredictable.

Analysis: The quarterfinal matches will be very even, quite complicated. Switzerland vs Spain will be a great match, the Swiss come from eliminating the great favorite, and come with an extra motivation, and will come out with everything. Luis Enrique's Spain was leaving a lot to talk about, but with a good game against Croatia, and with a great collective game they managed to advance. Against Switzerland they should not be confident, and should maintain order in all their lines. In the Belgium vs. Italy, quite even. Two candidates, in this match I will incline my opinion that if Italy comes out with that characteristic game, pressure in all parts of the game, collective play, with a great defense and offense. They could advance to the next round. Czech Republic vs Denmark. A match that will surely be a game of a lot of back and forth, in the style of the premier league matches. Denmark has made a great impression, and the Czechs come with all the desire after eliminating another of the candidates that went out, the Netherlands, in their round of 16 match. England vs Ukraine. England with one of the best defenses of this tournament, and who left behind another favorite (Germany) and who dream of reaching the final at Wembley. Those led by Shevchenko play well, and will surely complicate a lot to the English team, and that will be a match of quite a lot of friction.
