"No hay mal que dure cien años" es un adagio muy conocido y utilizado con frecuencia, quizás porque la suerte esquiva es más común de lo que suponemos. Algunos, con cierta suspicacia y tal vez un toque de malicia le agregaron "y no hay cuerpo que lo resista", creo que es una verdad de Perogrullo, nadie puede resistir tanto infortunio por tan largo período.
Y así parece ser, las penurias, también conocidas como rachas malas, suelen alargarse para padecimiento del que las sufre, aunque siempre terminan por acabar en algún momento y la alegría contenida por tanto tiempo de esperar a que la suerte cambie, se desata.
Algo así ocurrió esta semana con Los Pumas, el equipo argentino de rugby de siete jugadores, un combinado que viene dándonos alegrías desde un par de años a esta parte en la disputa del circuito RBSV HSBC, también conocido como Word Series Rugby Seven; terceros en 2023 y campeones de la fase regular en 2024.
Este año Los Pumas se encuentran liderando la tabla general y tocaba la fecha de Hong Kong donde no les ha ido bien desde mucho tiempo atrás, desde el año 2004 para ser más preciso; en todos y cada uno de los torneos disputados en ese país por esta liga mundial, desde aquel momento hasta ahora, no habían podido pasar de cuartos de final. Hasta ahora dije, porque consiguieron al fin terminar esa mala racha venciendo al equipo de Irlanda por 22 a 14.
Pero esa noticia ya es vieja porque en el día de ayer vencieron en la instancia de semifinales a Australia por 31 a 7 para obtener el acceso a la final que se disputará en el día de hoy ante Francia.
Con la buena actuación realizada hasta el momento, el equipo nacional se asegura mantener el primer puesto en la tabla general además de ganar el pase a la gran final de Los Angeles en mayo próximo donde los ocho mejores equipos de esta temporada disputarán por el trofeo de esa competencia, última del año, y por ser el campeón de 2025. Solo quedará luego de finalizado este torneo la fecha de la semana próxima en Singapur y la mencionada Gran Final de Los Angeles a partir del 4/5.
Ya que hemos roto la mala racha, vamos por más y esperamos que este año la Argentina se pueda quedar con ambos logros, el año anterior perdió la gran final justamente ante Francia, aunque se coronó como campeón de la etapa regular. Ese formato de doble distinción fue incorporado a partir del torneo 2024 ya que anteriormente había un solo campeón y no se disputaba el torneo especial denominado Gran Final.

Cuando estaba a punto de publicar esta nota, me entero que Los Pumas se consagraron campeones del RBSV HSBC de Hong Kong al vencer a Francia por 12 a 7. Felicitaciones!
Broken Curse
"Every cloud lasts a hundred years" is a well-known and frequently used adage, perhaps because elusive luck is more common than we think. Some, with suspicion and maybe a touch of malice, have added, "There's no body that can stand it." I believe it's a truism: no one can withstand so much misfortune for so long.
And so it seems: hardships, also known as bad streaks, tend to drag on, to the chagrin of those who suffer them, although they always end at some point, and the long-suppressed joy of waiting for luck to change is unleashed.
Something similar happened this week with Los Pumas, the Argentine seven-a-side rugby team, a team that has been bringing us joy for a couple of years now in the RBSV HSBC circuit, also known as World Series Rugby Sevens. Third in 2023 and regular season champions in 2024.
This year, Los Pumas are leading the standings, and the Hong Kong match was coming up. They haven't had a good run for a long time, since 2004, to be precise. In every single tournament held in that country in this global league, from that moment until now, they haven't made it past the quarterfinals. I said "until now" because they finally managed to end that losing streak by defeating the Irish team 22-14.
But that news is already old news, because yesterday they defeated Australia 31-7 in the semifinals to secure a spot in the final, which will be played today against France.
With their strong performance so far, the national team is guaranteed to maintain their top spot in the standings and earn a spot in the Grand Final in Los Angeles next May, where the eight best teams from this season will compete for the trophy of that competition, the final one of the year, and to be the 2025 champion. After this tournament, the only remaining events are next week's match in Singapore and the aforementioned Grand Final in Los Angeles, starting on May 4.
Now that we've broken this losing streak, we're going for more and hope that this year Argentina can claim both titles. Last year, they lost the Grand Final to France, although they were crowned champions of the regular season. This double-division format was introduced starting with the 2024 tournament, as previously, there was only one champion, and the special Grand Final was not held.
