Hello friends, good vibes to all.
Soccer today is nothing like it was a few years ago when the figure of the nine was very referential in a team, we could say that this player was the best of the 11 players on the field because he was the one who scored the goals. With the passing of time that way of playing, that style, has been mutating to the point that a large percentage of clubs around the world no longer play with that figure inside the box but rather they set up a way of playing based on a winger, a playmaker who is extremely skillful, fast and has a good punch. But despite this there are players who could be considered pure strikers and the task today is to decide which one might be “the best” at the moment.
First of all, which players to consider? - While it is true that there are quite a few strikers I think this list can be minimized with 4 names, most likely I miss one out there: Haaland, Lewandowski, Mbappe and yes, Cristiano Ronaldo. It should be made clear that I do not do this by tastes or affinity but by numbers and statistics so far this season. The Norwegian player of City may have something against him and it is the present of his club which is very black, for this I would say that does not make him so determinant and that for me is crucial, how relevant are you to your team? - the thing with Haaland is that he can go several games without appearing but out of nowhere he comes on and scores 4-5 goals in a game and inflates his numbers.
This season in 33 games he has 25 goals; not bad numbers, it is an outrageous statistic. But how many of those goals have been really important? - That's the question. Haaland is very unstable and that's a problem. Second on the list is Lewandowski. Barca's Pole has 30 goals in 32 games, meaning every 85 minutes he scores a goal. I consider Lewa to be the opposite of Haaland and I feel that his goals have set a better course for the culés and an example of that are the 2 goals that the striker scored in last October's clásico when the blaugranas won 4-0. Robert is much more consistent, he scores goals in La Liga, Champions League, Copa del Rey; in addition, his position on the field is often not to be fully involved in the area, he goes down and looks for the ball; Haaland's associative play is a little more difficult for him.
The third and perhaps some will say that he should not be there because he is not a natural “9” is CR7. Today he has 23 goals in 25 games. Here what might influence is that he plays in Arabia in a league with a much lower level compared to Europe but Cristiano is a 40 year old player and to see that he is still in such an insane rhythm makes him worthy of at least being mentioned. In a recent interview he says he learned to be a “9” over the years as we all know he started on the wing and still plays there but that goal scoring instinct was acquired by the physical capabilities he has always shown to have. I don't think that “the bug” is the best of today but in honor of the numbers he is still capable of showing it was very necessary to have him in this review. By the way, he scores a goal every 96 minutes.
And to close I am going to name someone who surely you do not expect but his numbers are interesting. Kylian Mbappé has 21 goals in 33 games. The Frenchman's start with Real Madrid has not been the best or at least the expected one and yet he has those numbers. I think that little by little he has been adapting, also because the white lineup is a disaster and is that having Vinicius in his same side for me hurts him. In the same interview I mentioned of CR7 this one says that Mbappe should learn to play with a pure 9 or at least learn the skills of one, just like the Portuguese did. I put the Frenchman in the same position as Haaland, he is slightly inconsistent but in his defense I think it's not all his fault, it's the tactical of the club that doesn't let him.
Conclusion: for this humble servant I think Robert Lewandowski is the best 9, striker, scorer or whatever you want to call it, of the present. Haaland was until not so long ago but his influence has diminished a lot at Manchester City. If you think any other player is missing in this list, leave it in the comments.
¡Un abrazo a todos, nos leemos en la próxima!
