En este camino de seguir fuera de nuestra zona de confort abordo los resultados de un deporte que en Cuba nos ha traído grandes alegrías, a pesar de su oficialización como deporte hace algo menos de seis o siete años.

Béisbol 5
Este es el hermano menor del Béisbol. Lo anterior lo expreso porque, según lo que conozco en torno a este deporte, tiene al Softbol y al Cricket como sus otros hermanos.
El Béisbol 5 está bajo el amparo de la Federación Internacional de Béisbol y Softbol y surge como un deporte para los jóvenes. Particularmente pienso que es otra de las acciones para seguir impulsando el Béisbol en el planeta y buscar variantes que sean más atractivas, sobre todo, para los jóvenes.
¿Cómo se juega?
Quien tenga cierto conocimiento de las reglas del Béisbol lo entenderá sin ningún problema. Por ejemplo:
•Son ocho jugadores por equipos, pero juegan 5.
•Se juega a cinco entradas.
•Cada entrada termina cuando los jugadores del equipo son puestos outs en tres ocasiones.
•El terreno tiene tres bases.
•Gana quien al concluir la quinta entrada tenga la mayor cantidad de carreras.
•El mismo bateador batea la pelota que es de goma (parecida a la del tenis).
•El equipo a la defensa tiene jugadores en 1ra, 2da, 3ra, Short Stop y en el field.
Lo anterior son preliminares. Si usted quiere ver las reglas y otros elementos generales de este deporte, le sugiero que busque en la Web 2 que hay bastante información al respecto. Esto lo recomiendo, para que vea lo dinámico que es este deporte y lo rápido que pueden terminar los juegos, algo muy positivo, en el sentido de que el deporte siga ascendiendo y pueda convertirse en deporte olímpico.
Cuatro Esquinas en Cuba
fuente/sourceEste deporte o una variante parecida se practica en Cuba desde hace varios años. En la Habana, principal urbe y capital del país, se juega desde hace varios años, aunque, no con el formato oficial que tiene el actual deporte. Otras provincias destacadas en el deporte son Guantánamo, Artemisa, Santiago de Cuba y Camagüey.
Particularmente lo he jugado en lo que pudiéramos llamar un Béisbol dos, con cuatro integrantes, dos por cada equipo. En épocas anteriores a los 2000 era muy común ver en cada esquina a varios niños, adolescentes, jóvenes y no tan jóvenes practicando esta variante del béisbol llamada 4 esquinas.
El campeonato nacional cubano
En la final nacional del cuarto campeonato nacional se enfrentaron Guantánamo y Artemisa y los del Guaso se llevaron las palmas y derrotaron a unos artemiseños que nunca se dieron por vencidos.
Con el bronce se quedó el equipo de la Habana, que era el único que había ganado este tipo de torneo.
Por tal razón, Guantánamo se convierte en el segundo equipo ganador de torneos nacionales, después que, en sus tres primeras ediciones, La Habana hiciera valer su favoritismo.
Béisbol 5 en mundiales
En los años 2022 y 2023 se desarrollaron los primeros campeonatos mundiales de este deporte, para las categorías Senior y juveniles y, en ambos casos, Cuba se alzó con la medalla de oro.
Un comentario final
En el objetivo permanente de seguir ampliando la cultura deportiva de nuestra comunidad, todo lo que hagamos por incluir disciplinas deportivas no habituales o poco conocidas será un excelente intento por alcanzar ese objetivo.
Para quien escribe esto es un reto y una meta permanente porque se siente comprometido con el desarrollo de esta comunidad y de todo el ecosistema. En tal sentido, la publicación de hoy pretende que se conozcan disciplinas deportivas e intentar ampliar el horizonte deportivo de nuestros compañeros comunitarios.

Como en muchos otros deportes, el juego con una menor cantidad de participantes está adquiriendo relevancia y de hecho hay algunos que participan oficialmente en los JJOO, como el rugby 7, el basquetbol 3 X 3 y el vóley de playa donde solo hay dos jugadores por equipo.
