Amigos de la comunidad Full Deportes, hoy les traigo una experiencia más que me ha dejado el deporte y la satisfacción que me genera una carrera tan completa como lo es el periodismo. Fui invitada por la Secretaría de Deportes del estado Zulia, Venezuela, a participar como jurado en el Premio al Mérito Deportivo Luis «Lucho» Moreno 2022, para elegir a los mejores deportistas del año.
La distinción es en honor al histórico atleta zuliano «Lucho» Moreno, quien fue capitán de la selección nacional de esgrima en los mundiales de Filadelfia y Chicago. Además, fue a los juegos Panamericanos y Centroamericanos en Brasil, Chile, Argentina y Colombia. También, se preparó como juez y árbitro deportivo; esto lo llevó a dirigir en competencias nacionales de básquet, voleibol, boxeo, esgrima, softbol, atletismo, béisbol y levantamiento de pesas.
Este premio se le otorga a los atletas más destacados del año en la disciplina que se desempeñe, es máxima distinción del estado Zulia para un deportista.
En el jurado participan autoridades y periodistas que cubren la fuente. Cuando llegué al lugar de la elección, situado en la Villa Deportiva, para mí sorpresa fui la única mujer invitada para integrar el jurado, lo que significa un honor para mí.
A todos los miembros del jurado los conocía, fue una alegría volver a encontrarme con ellos, el deporte une vidas y a mí me ha otorgado la oportunidad de aprender de cada profesional de la comunicación. Además, me enorgullece saber que fui la más joven entre los miembros del jurado.
Luego que nos explicaron la dinámica de la elección, nos entregaron una carpeta y en cada una habían distintos papeles identificados con la elección del Atleta del Año, Atleta Talento Deportivo, Paratleta, Entrenador, Dirigente y Asociación del Año.
Por cada premio habían varios nominados, por renglón escogimos lo que a nuestra consideración fueron los mejores, se hizo la contabilidad de los votos y cada uno obtuvo resultados esperados para el primer lugar por categoría. Esta edición tenía 5 años sin realizarse, y se venía celebrando desde el año 1998 de manera ininterrumpida.
Los ganadores fueron:
✅ Atleta del Año: Amarantha Urdaneta (Judo)
✅ Atleta Talento Deportivo del Año: Fabiana Gamboa (Tenis de Campo)
✅ Paratleta del Año: Alejandra Pérez (Paratletismo)
✅ Entrenador del Año: Harold Augusto (Atletismo)
✅ Dirigente del Año: Daniel Rosas (Deportes Acuáticos)
✅ Asociación del Año: Fútbol
En la máxima distinción que es la del Atleta del Año, Amarantha Urdaneta logró un puntaje de 128, mientras que en la segunda posición quedó Edward Paredes con 83.
Para la elección de estos atletas, las asociaciones tienen el deber de postularlos. Pero, lo curioso del caso, es que Amarantha nunca fue postulada por su asociación. Eso llamó mucho la atención de los periodistas y la directiva, ya que el mismo Instituto Regional del Deporte se vio en la obligación de nominar a la atleta zuliana, ya que obtuvo varios triunfos en competencias nacionales e internacionales,por lo que parecía injusto no meterla entre los mejores.
Así, la mayoría de los periodistas votaron a favor de la representante del judo en el Zulia.
En lo personal, es una experiencia más para mí, significa que a nivel del estado estoy bien posicionada como periodista en el deporte y es algo que me llena de una gran satisfacción. Es un privilegio ser la única mujer del jurado y la más joven, estuve al lado de profesionales grandes y experimentados, por eso agradezco cada momento único y este es uno de esos.

Friends of the Full Deportes community, today I bring you one more experience that sport has left me and the satisfaction that a career as complete as journalism generates in me. I was invited by the Secretary of Sports of the state of Zulia, Venezuela, to participate as a jury in the Sports Merit Award Luis "Lucho" Moreno 2022, to choose the best athletes of the year.
The distinction is in honor of the historic Zulia athlete "Lucho" Moreno, who was captain of the national fencing team in the Philadelphia and Chicago world championships. In addition, he went to the Pan American and Central American Games in Brazil, Chile, Argentina and Colombia. He also trained as a sports judge and referee; this led him to direct national competitions in basketball, volleyball, boxing, fencing, softball, athletics, baseball and weightlifting.
This award is given to the most outstanding athletes of the year in the discipline in which they perform; it is the highest distinction of the state of Zulia for an athlete.
The jury is made up of authorities and journalists who cover the source. When I arrived at the place of the election, located in the Sports Village, to my surprise I was the only woman invited to be part of the jury, which means an honor for me.
I knew all the members of the jury, it was a joy to meet them again, sport unites lives and has given me the opportunity to learn from every communication professional. I was also proud to know that I was the youngest member of the jury.
After they explained the dynamics of the election, they gave us a folder and in each one there were different papers identified with the election of the Athlete of the Year, Athlete Sports Talent, Parathlete, Coach, Manager and Association of the Year.
For each award there were several nominees, per line we chose what we considered to be the best, the votes were counted and each one obtained the expected results for the first place per category. This edition had not been held for 5 years, and had been held since 1998 uninterruptedly.
The winners were:
✅ Athlete of the Year: Amarantha Urdaneta (Judo).
Sports Talent Athlete of the Year: Fabiana Gamboa (Field Tennis).
✅ Parathlete of the Year: Alejandra Pérez (Parathletics)
Coach of the Year: Harold Augusto (Athletics)
✅ Manager of the Year: Daniel Rosas (Aquatic Sports)
✅ Association of the Year: Soccer
In the highest distinction which is the Athlete of the Year, Amarantha Urdaneta achieved a score of 128, while in second place was Edward Paredes with 83.
For the election of these athletes, the associations have the duty to nominate them. But, the curious thing is that Amarantha was never nominated by his association. This caught the attention of the journalists and the board of directors, since the Regional Institute of Sports itself was obliged to nominate the athlete from Zulia, since she had obtained several victories in national and international competitions, so it seemed unfair not to include her among the best.
Thus, most of the journalists voted in favor of the representative of judo in Zulia.
Personally, it is one more experience for me, it means that at the state level I am well positioned as a journalist in the sport and it is something that fills me with great satisfaction. It is a privilege to be the only woman on the jury and the youngest, I was next to great and experienced professionals, so I appreciate every unique moment and this is one of those.
