Welcome to my Solitaire games journey my fellow diabolical Rogues out there! I just hope you guys are staying safe in your own dungeons with all the diabolical tornadoes and climate change out there.
Today I wanna introduce y'all to maaaaaaaaaaa latest obsession, this minimalist Dungeon Crawling game called Mini Rogue. I got this a few weeks ago as I was looking for some dice-y adventure-y not-too-harsh-y not-too-fancy or expensive kind of board game. (Sorry if I'm annoying you guys with my choice of words - it turns out I'm just feeling a bit happy-y this time only lol) Now after checking the reviews, BGG ratings, opinions of random strangers including the classic dry stupid ones on the internet, I'm SOLD. I got to have this too I thought. Because one more game, +1 cart check out, wouldn't hurt, right? 😊
And so here I was, in my desolate dungeon with Diablo (my cat), unboxing this mini game that I bought from a local shop. Mind you, 2-3 days was the longest wait of my life - my Gawd it was painful lol! My cravings tho.
But then look look, just look here guys, how excited I am to share with you all these colourful dice and wooden trackers. Artwork and colors are definitely my thing. Overall feels or aesthetics is something that I greatly consider when buying a board game. There's something about being able to physically interact with the game, admire the art, and hold its actual components this time. So old school feels soooo nice. No more brain fog and smashing the mouse and keyboard!
Now let me just backstab you for my own pleasure... 😈
Sleeved it already!!!!!!! 😊
Now let's skip all this talk, what is Mini Rogue anyway and how do you actually play it? Okay guys, again, this is not a full tutorial or playthrough. I'm a bit lazy to be a yt star these days so I'm just gonna give you a quick overview.
Here you bitches go witches !
In this solo or co-op game, you get to be an adventurer, exploring mysterious dungeons up to the deep end, nothing too hard for you my fragile one, just y'know... getting poisoned or cursed along the way, slaying diabolical monsters, picking up shiny treasures (if you're lucky), escaping traps, all while staying alive and surviving the whole ordeal (gotta have food too!). Room after room, floor after floor, exciting evil things await.
We set up the dungeon mat, room cards, boss cards, character mat (with all your starting stats) and chosen character card, in this case I chose Rogue - just because I am rrrrr ! 😎 Don't forget to listen to Dungeon Music playlist on spotify too for a full on game experience.
Turn Sequence
Every turn, your chosen character will go from one room to another, resolving card effects and events based on the dice results one at a time.
1. Preparation Phase - this is when you get to shuffle the room cards and lay out 8 facedown first. The unused cards are set aside. The first room card top left will be revealed and resolved straight away.
2. Exploration Phase - this is when you get to explore the room cards by revealing the one to your right or down. Then you can choose one card from here (depending on which you think is the best for you in this situation). Just remember, you cannot go diagonal or left. (I might be a Rogue but I don't break the rules... ) Then finally, you fight the boss (OG is the last!), if there is one in this turn, (check the indicator on the dungeon mat).
3. Delving Phase - finally, the delving phase! After exploring the rooms, you consume 1 food ration, refresh your character (flip the character card faceup again if you've used a skill during the boss fight), then move the adventurer's cube down to the next floor or area on the Dungeon mat. Then shuffle all the room cards and go back to #1. Repeat.
I know this game can be repetitive after a while and so this is why there are campaign modes in the rulebook that you can try. I also bought the expansion deck to add more challenge to this game. But I'm gonna post about this later! For now, I'm just gonna enjoy the base game and master all the rules (I know right it's not me lol).
The gameplay hugely depends on how lucky you are, or not, with all the dice rolls but then let's face it, who doesn't like dice? Dice rolling is fun! I mean you still need some good strategy and decision-making here and there so why not just enjoy the hell out of this board game, and walk the talk shall we? Prove to me you can actually annihilate this diabolic OG! 😛 Because I, too, need his blood.
