Fund Raiser - Helping a friend with funding for a Wedding!
This post is part of the current Fund Raiser where a friend has given me an offer to buy a collection of Warhammer models, the money will go to putting down deposits for his wedding arrangements.
After that I have two other hobby debts to sort out.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
The total needed is $575 (R10,000 ZAR).
Every bit counts!
Back to the review.
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
Also this has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
575 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #204, I am 371 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
January 2025 we are expecting Astra Militarum and Aeldari codexes as explained Here, so time to focus on THOSE Datasheets!
Astra Militarum, Deathstrike
10th Edition Index
A Deathstrike is a missile payload system used in situations when something needs to be blown up with extreme prejudice and the cost and the destruction of the surrounding area is acceptable.
It is a one-shot weapon. Its abilities are, in my mind, useful as a deterrent system. They are not widely seen in tournaments but I sort of wish they would see their value!
They are 145pts and cost $65 to buy.
Let's check its stats!
Stats
Movement 10"
Toughness 10
Save 3+ (armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 11
Ld 7+
OC 3
Weapons
The main gun is the Deathstrike missile and then has an option of either a Heavy Bolter or Heavy Flamer as a hull-mounter weapon, plus a Hunter-Killer Missile.
Ranged Weapons
Deathstrike Missile
N/A Range, 2D6 Shots, Hitting on 2+, S16, AP-4 and 1 Damage each.
One Shot (This weapon can only be fired once per game)
Blast (Gain an additional attack per 5 models rounding down in the target unit)
Plasma Warhead (This weapon can only be fired in the Shooting phase and if the bearer was stationary. When it shoots, resolve this weapon's attacks against every unit within 6" of the Deathstrike Target Marker individually. This Weapon cannot be fired when using Designate Target or Adjust Target abilities below.)
Heavy Bolter
36" Range, 3 Shots, Hitting on 4+, S5, AP-1 and 2 Damage each.
Sustained Hits 1 (A roll of a 6 to Hit, generates another hit)
Heavy Flamer
12" Range, D6 Shots, Hitting on Auto, S5, AP-1 and 1 Damage each.
Torrent (Hits Automatically)
Ignores Cover (The target unit does not benefit from Cover against this attack)
Hunter-Killer Missile
48" Range, 1 Shot, Hitting on 3+, S14, AP-3 and D6 Damage each.
One Shot (This weapon can only be fired once per game)
Melee Weapons
Armoured Tracks
3 Attacks, Hitting on 5+, S6, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Abilities
Deadly Demise D6 - It can explode when it dies on a 6 dealing D6 Mortal Wounds to nearby enemies.
Deathstrike Missile
In your shooting phase, when this model is selected to shoot if it has not yet shot with its Deathstrike Missile this battle, you can do do one of the following:
Designate Target: If there is no Deathstrike Target marker on the battlefiled, place one anywhere on the battlefield.
Adjust Target: If there is a Deathstrike Target marker on the battlefield, move the marker to anywhere on the battlefield.
Thoughts
2D6 shots against every unit within a 6" zone around the marker. I am pretty sure the marker is a 25mm circle. Strength 16 and AP-4 means that it has a good chance to hurt most things!
The thing I find great on this weapon is its ability to threaten the enemy. It takes a turn to set up the shot.
So it can be used to target on an emplacement of the enemy to force the enemy to move or try to run away, or you could place the marker where the enemy has to move towards in order to secure an objective or charge towards the Guardsmen they want to kill.
There are some armies that will take the shot and not care too much... but most armies don't want to get hit where it hurts by this weapon!
That makes 33 Astra Militarum Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 37.07% Completed. The total Completed is 21.00% Complete! Can I review them all?!
Thank you for reading!

Back in the days of scatter dice, people would tell stories of abusing that infinite range, calling other game shops to see whether there were any battles and lobbing missiles over the phone.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
That's hilarious! I think we shall definitely be using them in the big games.
I've always liked the look of this, it feels like it's come straight out of an episode of Thunderbirds 😁
If nothing else, it'll attract enemy fire in the hope of killing it before it uses the missile. Once it's fired, it's kind of like a Chimera with half the weapons and no troops inside.
Hahahaha, yeah if the Guard player wants to prevent the enemy from killing it, its quite easy. The Deathstrike does not need to see its target. It does not even say Indirect Fire on it. It just shoots where the marker is.
It also has no range. Can you imagine the glee one would have in a large scale game sticking Deathstrike markers on the battlefield where a horde of aliens are now traversing over and then letting loose the payload?
But for 2000pts games I imagine that after shooting the Deathstrike and the Hunter-Killer Missile that the Deathstrike would be good for doing actions and holding the back objective and for screening the opponent Deepstrikes.
In a really big game, Apocalypse or similar, I can imagine the effect of a battery of the things, either firing at a single massive high-value target like an Imperial Knight, or landing several missiles near each other to blanket a zone full of orcs or other "Horde" enemies.
Hehehe, the absolute havoc that would wreck... Mwahahahaha!
