Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

A New Season of Reviews - A Challenge accepted!

The nefarious trio of World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are set to get their new Codexes next. Actually, the great FOUR are each getting their favourite Legion's new Codexes but Emperor's Children did not have an actual Index before.

Anyway. I was speaking to my friend @nicolaasmuller about how my Review posts might not make a lot of money for me, but that cumulatively and on average some of them do good and overall there is an average that at least means that there is good movement of income into the Hobby Fund and that it would grow from there.

We were throwing around some numbers and looking at the average of my last 10 Review Posts, 20 Review posts and 30 Review Posts and we could come up with a range of how much I should theoretically be making across a large sample size of completing the remainder of the reviews for the nefarious trio mentioned above.

So Nicolaas says to me something along the lines of: That would be pretty cool if you could do it in like, a month. Maybe do like 2 a day.

So I explained it would be a little bit more than that but sure... it would be cool... is that a challenge? And yeah... here I am... Challenge accepted. 😎

It is now Day 10 of the Challenge. This is the 18th post of that Challenge!

Totals so far: 15/70 Datasheets done, 3/3 Army Rules done, 0/6 Detachment Rules done. Total 18/79.

Time elapsed: 33.33%
Progress completed: 22.78%

Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear

With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.

I am collecting funds in the following ways:

  • Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
  • Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
  • Selling some of the collection to friends.

At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $304 to pay off!

Every bit counts!

Back to the review.

The whole project has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.

I should have started when 10th edition launched!
633 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #269, I am 364 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)

Thousand Sons, Scarab Occult Terminators

10th Edition Index

Terminators with Sorcery, like Rubric Marines - this squad is led my a Sorcerer! Also, besides the Sorcerer, the rest of the unit are just dust inside their armour.

Bottom line - the Thousand Sons get a Tough unit that is able to last. They have a very different set of weapons to Space Marine Terminators.

They are weak against other Terminator units and strong against Power Armor units.

They are 190pts for 5 models and 380pts for a unit of 10.
The are sold in a box of 5 which is $62.50

Let's check their stats!

Stats

Movement 5"
Toughness 5
Save 2+/4++ (armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 3
Ld 6+
OC 1

Weapons

The Sorceror is armed with an Inferno Combi-Bolter, Warpsmite and a Force Weapon.

The rest are each armed with an Inferno Combi-Bolter and a Prosperine Khopesh.

The Sorcerer can replace his Bolter for a Prosperine Khopesh.

For every 5 models in this unit, 1 model can have 1 of the following, exhanging their Iinferno Combi Bolter:

  • Heavy Warpflamer
  • Soulreaper Cannon

For every 5 models in the unit, 1 Terminator can be armed with a Hellfyre Missile Rack.

Ranged Weapons

Inferno Combi-Bolter

24" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP-1 and 1 Damage each.
Rapid Fire 2 (This weapon gets 2 additional shots at half range of 12")

Warpsmite

18" Range, 3 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S4, AP-3 and 1 Damage each.
Pistol (Can be used while in melee)
Psychic (Is a Psychic attack)
Devastating Wounds (Critical Wounds cause Mortal Wounds)
Anti-Infantry 4+ (Causes critical Wounds on a 4+)

Soulreaper Cannon

24" Range, 6 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S6, AP-1 and 1 Damage each.
Devastating Wounds (Critical Wounds cause Mortal Wounds)

Heavy Warpflamer

12" Range, D6 Shots, Hitting on Auto, S5, AP-2 and 1 Damage each.
Torrent (This weapon hits automatically, just roll for the number of hits)
Ignores Cover (Enemies do not get Benefit of Cover against this weapon)

Hellfyre Missile Rack

36" Range, 2 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S10, AP-2 and 3 Damage each.

Melee Weapons

Force Weapon

4 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S6, AP-1 and D3 Damage each.
Psychic (Has the Psychic keyword)

Prosperine Khopesh

3 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S5, AP-2 and 2 Damage each.

Abilities

Cabal of Sorcerers 1 (Sorcerer only)
Deep Strike (If set up from Strategic Reserves, they can arrive anywhere on the board outside 9" of an enemy."

Implacable Guardians

If this unit contains one or more Psyker models, each time they are attacked by a Weapon that has a Strength greater than this unit's Toughness, subtract 1 from the Wound roll.

Thoughts

Implacable Guardians is really good! Usually it says the same for many units when led by a Character. While this would be true for them too, the squad leader is a Psyker so you would ALWAYS have this benefit.

In statistics, against S6-S9 Weapons they Are T6-T9, S9+ weapons, then they are Tx-1. There is no Wounding them on 2+, only 3+ at best! So S24, it is like they have T23 so you wound them on 3+! Crazy!

That makes 9 Thousand Sons Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 32.14% Completed. The total Completed is 29.39% Complete! Can I review them all?!
