Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!

Now known as the Unit Review Library!

What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!

A New Season of Reviews - A Challenge accepted!

The nefarious trio of World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are set to get their new Codexes next. Actually, the great FOUR are each getting their favourite Legion's new Codexes but Emperor's Children did not have an actual Index before.

Anyway. I was speaking to my friend @nicolaasmuller about how my Review posts might not make a lot of money for me, but that cumulatively and on average some of them do good and overall there is an average that at least means that there is good movement of income into the Hobby Fund and that it would grow from there.

We were throwing around some numbers and looking at the average of my last 10 Review Posts, 20 Review posts and 30 Review Posts and we could come up with a range of how much I should theoretically be making across a large sample size of completing the remainder of the reviews for the nefarious trio mentioned above.

So Nicolaas says to me something along the lines of: That would be pretty cool if you could do it in like, a month. Maybe do like 2 a day.

So I explained it would be a little bit more than that but sure... it would be cool... is that a challenge? And yeah... here I am... Challenge accepted. 😎

It is now Day 14 of the Challenge.

Totals so far: 19/70 Datasheets done, 3/3 Army Rules done, 0/6 Detachment Rules done. Total 22/79.

Time elapsed: 46.66%
Progress completed: 27.84%

Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear

With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.

I am collecting funds in the following ways:

  • Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
  • Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
  • Selling some of the collection to friends.

At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $291 to pay off!

Every bit counts!

Back to the review.

The whole project has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.

I should have started when 10th edition launched!
637 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #273, I am 364 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)

World Eaters, Khorne Lord of Skulls

10th Edition Index

I have reviewed this model before, but for a different army.

In Chaos armies, this happens a lot. Chaos Cultists across the different Chaos armies are different and the Chaos Spawn are mostly the same.

A Chaos Space Marine army may include one of these because they may have Khorne Worshippers and you can play armies made up of units dedicated to each Chaos God.

Are they different? Do they play different?

Absolutely. I will need to go through the datasheet with a fine comb to make sure that they are identical, but the main difference is that in the Chaos Space Marine Army, the Khorne Lord of Skulls can do Dark Pacts to gain buffs.

The World Eaters Khorne Lord of Skulls can instead benefit from the Blessings of Khorne.

The two datasheets also find themselves surrounded by different units, in different Detachments with different synergies.

In this army the Khorne Lord of Skulls is 450pts and costs 185pts.

Let's check its stats!

Stats

Movement 8"
Toughness 13
Save 3+/5++ (armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 24
Ld 6+
OC 8

Weapons

Standard Weapons include: Gorestorm Cannon, Hades Gatling Cannon and Cleaver of Khorne.

The Gorestorm Cannon is the "body weapon", it can be replaced by one of the following:

  • Daemongore Cannon
  • Ichor Cannon

The Hades Gatling Cannon is on the one arm and can be replaced by a Skullhurler.

Ranged Weapons

Gorestorm Cannon

24" Range, D6+3 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S10, AP-2 and 3 Damage each.
Blast (Add +1 Attack for every 5 models in target unit, rounding up)

Daemongore Cannon

18" Range, D6 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S14, AP-4 and D6+2 Damage each.
Blast (Add +1 Attack for every 5 models in target unit, rounding up)

Ichor Cannon

48" Range, 2D6 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S7, AP-2 and 2 Damage each.
Blast (Add +1 Attack for every 5 models in target unit, rounding up)

Hades Gatling Cannon

48" Range, 12 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S8, AP-2 and 2 Damage each.
Sustained Hits 1 (Rolls of 6 to Hit, score additional hits!)

Skullhurler

60" Range, 2D6 Shots, Hitting on 3+, S14, AP-3 and 3 Damage each.

Melee Weapons

Great cleaver of Khorne - Strike option

5 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S16, AP-4 and 8 Damage each.

Great cleaver of Khorne - Sweep option

15 Attacks, Hitting on 3+, S8, AP-2 and 2 Damage each.

Abilities

Deadly Demise D6+2 (When this model is destroyed, roll a dice. On a 6 it blows up! This deals D6+2 Mortal Wounds to every unit within 6")

Blessed Slaughter

Each time you make a Blessings of Khorne roll, for every enemy unit that this model destroyed in the previous Battle Round, you can increase or decrease the result of one of the dice you rolled by 1. You can only affect each dice once this way and you cannot make a dice more than 6 or less than 1.

Thoughts

The Chaos Space Marine version of the Lord of Skulls has "Plough Through the Enemy" which forces a Battleshock in an area around it every time it kills something, this version influences the Blessings of Khorne rolls.

It says Battle Round, so it can be your turn first. It shoots and kills, charges and kills. Something charges it in melee in the opponent's turn and it kills.

Now you can change the result of 3 Blessings rolls by 1 up or 1 down each. This will help greatly to get the results you want.

Remember, other Khorne units also have buffs to the Blessings of Khorne roll, like Jakhals with an Icon of Khorne on an objective. So synergies can be made!

Otherwise, it is a beast! Big attacks all round, great and tough statline. 450pts is like 1/4 of the points limit for a full army.

That makes 10 World Eaters Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 43.47% Completed. The total Completed is 29.80% Complete! Can I review them all?!

Thank you for reading!

Sort:

wow. this thing is amazing all round. I'd stick it with a daemongore cannon and a hades gatling cannon. done and dusted. bit rough on the points but worth it.

How many Heavy Railgun shots from you to take it out?

!LOL

hmm. depends on if i use hammerheads or broadsides. they have different statlines.

🤷‍♂️

I would like to thank my fingers.
I can always count on them
