A Fortification of Filth!
Hello everyone! Zak Ludick here from Cape Town, South Africa and this is a Warhammer 40k - The Great Unit Review Wheel! post!
Now known as the Unit Review Library!
What is it all about? It is not there to just give a stat. It is there to give MY review of the unit!
A New Season of Reviews - A Challenge accepted!
The nefarious trio of World Eaters, Death Guard and Thousand Sons are set to get their new Codexes next. Actually, the great FOUR are each getting their favourite Legion's new Codexes but Emperor's Children did not have an actual Index before.
Anyway. I was speaking to my friend @nicolaasmuller about how my Review posts might not make a lot of money for me, but that cumulatively and on average some of them do good and overall there is an average that at least means that there is good movement of income into the Hobby Fund and that it would grow from there.
We were throwing around some numbers and looking at the average of my last 10 Review Posts, 20 Review posts and 30 Review Posts and we could come up with a range of how much I should theoretically be making across a large sample size of completing the remainder of the reviews for the nefarious trio mentioned above.
So Nicolaas says to me something along the lines of: That would be pretty cool if you could do it in like, a month. Maybe do like 2 a day.
Alteration So @nicolaasmuller and I worked out that firstly - due to family obligations, I had missed out on some days not being able to blog at all and having no laptop with me and more on the way... and the fact that he had said 2x posts a day from the start would have made it a 40 day challenge. I shall adjust that number below going forward...
So I explained it would be a little bit more than that but sure... it would be cool... is that a challenge? And yeah... here I am... Challenge accepted. 😎
It is now Day 28 of the Challenge.
Totals so far: 53/70 Datasheets done, 3/3 Army Rules done, 0/6 Detachment Rules done. Total 56/79.
Time elapsed: 70%
Progress completed: 70.88%
Hobby Fund - Working myself into the clear
With my hobby posts, I generate a hobby fund. 50% of the income goes into the fund. At the moment I put all my HBD earned from Warhammer posts into my alt account @zakl.hobbyfund.
I am collecting funds in the following ways:
- Blogging about Warhammer to earn HBD
- Accepting donations - Can be sent directly to @zakl.hobbyfund in HBD
- Selling some of the collection to friends.
At the current count I am paying off some hobby debts. I still have $288 to pay off!
Every bit counts!
Back to the review.
The whole project has become quite the Challenge! With so many units to review in the game the consensus in the hobby community is that I will not have enough time to review all of the Datasheets before the new edition of Warhammer 40,000 came out.
I should have started when 10th edition launched!
651 days since the start of 10th Edition.
This is Review #307, I am 344 reviews behind! (Lowest I have been is 314 behind)
Death Guard, Miasmic Malignifier
10th Edition Index
I have never seen one of these things played in a match.
Fortifications are not common or popular. No OC on these and rather pricey when you can get better benefits from other units.
Despite that, this one is fairly useful, but I feel that it should be a good 25pts less.
This model is 115pts to field in this army and costs $70.
Let's check its stats!
Stats
Movement N/A
Toughness 10
Save 3+(armor/invul/Feel No Pain)
Wounds 12
Ld 6+
OC 0
Weapons
Ranged Weapons
Noxious Stink
6" Range, 2D6 Shots, Hitting on Auto, S3, AP0 and 1 Damage each.
Torrent (Hits automatically, just roll for shots)
Ignores cover (enemy cannot claim cover from this attack.
Melee Weapons
None!
Abilities
Deadly Demise D3 - When this model is destroyed, roll a dice, on a 6 it blows up dealing D3 Mortal Wounds to each unit within 6"
Fortification - Units can still be shot at while fighting this unit in melee. They do not need to do a Desperate Escape Test if Battle-shocked and moving away from this model.
Putrescent Fog (Aura)
While a friendly Death Guard unit is wholly within 6" of this fortification, each time an attack targets that unit, Subtract 1 from the Hit Roll.
Diseased Cover
Each time an attack is targeting a model that is not fully visible because of this model, that unit receives Benefit of Cover.
Thoughts
For 115pts this is not worth it.
I think it is really clever that this unit has Stealth and you can plonk in on top of an Objective and then put units on top of that objective to hold it.
It has a flamer type weapon but without the usual Plague profiles? Why?
It should be a Plague Spewer with its Anti-Infantry and some AP-1 on the gun. That would make more sense. It could also do with a 5+ invulnerable save.
In any case... would be cool to have one in your collection if you played Death Guard.
That makes 24 Death Guard Datasheets Reviewed putting them on 75% Completed. The total Completed is 33.51% Complete! Can I review them all?!

As always GW thought fortifications was a good idea then nerfed the shit out of it. Just like aircraft😑
Indeed. And that is PURELY because it does not fit into their stupid 1,000-3,000pts scale game! Which is why we make our own alterations to the rules!
eh just bake some bread in the little oven and give it to they enemies.
Right? It DOES look like a little oven!
