Hello everyone!
I had been looking for a leather journal for a while to take with me and I finally decided to make it myself!

What I wanted was a cover to hold a travel diary and one of my fountain pens.

I bought the tools and leather on the internet and while I was waiting for them to arrive I drew the project in autocad.

Ciao a tutti!

When I had everything I needed, following various tutorials, I started cutting leather...

Quando avevo tutto l'occorrente, seguendo vari tutorial, ho iniziato a tagliare il pellame...

I finished the edges to get a cleaner and more precise final effect.

I then drilled the holes to facilitate the passage of the needles and the waxed thread.

Helping myself with a book to hold the pieces of leather in place, I started sewing...and it was complicated, I didn't think it would take so long!!

When I finished I was really happy, it took me at least an hour to do the seams.

I didn't notice it but evidently when I made the holes, I wasn't straight and the hole in the back came offset, so the seam isn't perfectly straight! It doesn't matter I'm satisfied anyway!

ITA

The interior looked good. Unfortunately I have not found notebooks with a black cover, for the moment I am satisfied with this fluorescent green.

I know it's not perfect, but I did it and it gives me a lot of satisfaction.
It is unique and I did it with my hands!

My Waterman Ideal also goes well with the leather journal!

Mission accomplished!

Missione compiuta!

This looks awesome. Also not too complicated to make. But again working with any kind of fabric is a complete different world that needs a subtle and precise touch. That is the name on the green thing with the numbers and grids. It looks like something I have seen before, but I can't tell.

Thanks! Yes, it is true, apparently it is simple, but for a beginner who has never sewn in his life, it is very complicated! I am satisfied to be the first test. Practice will help me a lot.

The green support is called the cutting mat, it is very useful for not destroying the table 😀

Ha, ha, ha. I have only sewn in my life to repair stuff clothes. This looks like it need little more strength and thicker thread.

Thanks a lot for the info. I guess it is also good to have measures without using any ruler.

Yes, it's very useful!

Fantastico! proprio un ottimo lavoro :)

Grazie! Troppo buona! Ti assumo come motivatrice 😀

Ahahah! :)

Ohh that is so nice! I’ve been watching a lot of leather crafting tutorials on youtube lately and getting somewhat obsessed with it. I’m so close to ordering the tools myself too!

I understand you, it seems that I only beat you on time: D

I thought that given the restrictions due to covid it is the right time to try! :)

I'm still missing a few things to finish the leather well, but I'm still figuring out if I like it enough to make a small investment.

Come on, try it too, so we encourage each other!

I’ll let you know if/when I gather the materials and tools, but I suspect it’ll be a while. Please share all the leather projects you will try now that you have the tools for it, love seeing stuff like this!

You will surely see new experiments with leather!
Stay tuned! 😀

That is really cool! As a fellow fountain pen lover, I am always on the look out for a good case! Appreciate people who can make their own!
