Painting The Dice Holder Sword for My Friend as a New Year Gift
Hello, friends. The new year has come and the dice holder of a dear friend of mine has been in my house for a while. He printed it on a 3d printer but didn't have time to paint it. We have been playing the dungeons and dragons board game with him for years. He is a very valuable person for me. I had a couple of hours available today and I wanted to paint this friend's dice holder. It will be a surprise for him on New Year's Eve.
Materials
- Average time of 70-90 minutes
- The dice holder you want to paint
- Black spray paint
- Mask for spraying
- Brown acrylic paint to give the appearance of wood
- Gray metallic acrylic paint to give the appearance of metal
- At least two brushes, one of them very fine/thin
- A glass with water to rest the brushes when not in use
- Hair Dryer
- A favorite music playlist
As always, we need black spray paint to hold the acrylic paint and make the shadows darker. We must wear a mask when applying this spray paint. It is one of the best ways to paint and you have to do it from a distance. If you do it too close, it will run and make marks. You need to be further away than in the picture, 1 meter is a good distance. Do not squeeze excessively so that it does not flow. Spray in small bursts.
Wood Appearance Painting Step
Then I painted the places that I wanted to give the wood look brown. I was listening to Iron Maiden at the time, so I painted very quickly. Obviously the music has a lot of influence for me. Because whenever I listen to fast and exciting music, I paint fast. But on the contrary, whenever I listen to slow and peaceful music, this time it takes a long time.
Anyway, the secret here is to paint along 2 rows.
Paint in one direction first and don't try to apply too much wet paint. Take your time.
Wait for it to dry.
Go through another round.
Then paint in the other direction, perpendicular to it. After that, let it dry again.
This way you will have painted in the + and + directions.
Metal Appearance Painting Step
It is more difficult to give the appearance of metal. At this stage, again, make sure that you have VERY LITTLE PAINT on your brush when painting. Let this paint catch the 3d mini in your hand. Don't struggle to paint it. Do not empty all the paint. If I have learned one thing during this time, it is to be patient.
* Paint with a line of thin paint using the dry brush method
* Dry with hairdryer (or time)
* Don't use too much paint if you don't want to cover the shadows and give the metal a processed and aged feel.
* Repaint with the dry brush technique.
Final Careful Touches
Do you remember that little fine-tipped brush? Now it's time to use it. I chose to paint some places on the hilt of the sword and some places on the sheath of the sword with gray, so I think I achieved a sense of unity.
This is a fine and long work. I think I may have spent the most time here. Little things take time.

Glad to see the Sword Painted, we hadn't painted it for a long time, it finally got a much nicer look. Is there the sound of pulling out the sword again? 😁
No, the sound seems to have disappeared. 😁
The paint you added to your sword is very nice, it is ideal for board games like Dungeons and Dragons.
Thank you for stopping by 🤗🤗
It's a great surprise for your friend and a neat job.
I would like to thank you from the bottom of my heart for your incredible comment and for the sentences that really made me happy. 🤗🤗 I will try to continue sharing creative content and making beautiful friendships as much as I can.
This piece is FDM print. I haven't shared the resin ones yet, I plan to paint them when the time comes, I will share them as well 🤗🤗
It turned out very well, the time and attention I dedicate to it is noticeable. I'm sure he'll thank you for the detail.
Thank you very much, yes, 3d mini painting works really take time and it is not possible without doing it joyfully.🤗
