Earthquake and in my city Larnaca

in DIYHub2 years ago

Probably almost all of you already know about the terrible earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
Poor people, there were many victims and many wounded...

And, of course, the earthquake reached Cyprus, and not only.

My son was sleeping but I wasn't.
It was 3:20 a.m. when the front door suddenly shook.
I was scared, thinking that it was someone who wanted to knock her out.
Immediately everything around shook, the chandeliers "danced", I staggered, small objects fell ...
The son woke up.

It was scary, although earthquakes are not uncommon in Cyprus, here is today's data from the newspaper.

There were 66 earthquakes in Larnaca in the last 7 days:

5 earthquakes of magnitude 4 and above
28 earthquakes with a magnitude of 3 to 4
27 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2 to 3

There were also 6 small earthquakes of magnitude less than 2.0.

There are 66 earthquakes in total.

In Larnaca there was an earthquake of 4 points and it lasted for a whole 1 minute!
Oh...

But my son and I still didn’t go out into the street, whether it’s right or not, I don’t know.

Aftershocks were already weaker.

I had a chance to survive with my first son (the second son had not yet been born) a much larger earthquake, we could not even stand and walk with him, we crawled along the floor lying down.

Yes... man is helpless before the elements!

The photo below is taken from the newspaper, this is in Nicosia
In Nicosia, people took to the streets.

Wow, I didn´t know that Cyprus is shaking too these days :( So sad. Stay safe and strong guys.

@tipu curate

Ugh! we have sometimes had earth tremors here and I hate the feeling. I hope you all remain safe

Thanks a lot!
I'm already used to small pushes, that is, I'm worried, but there is no such fear as this time.

That sound really scary! I read in news about Turkey.... out of words really.
I also don't know if it's better to stay inside or go out. Stay safe!!

Thank you very much!
Our building is anti-seismic, it can withstand up to 7 points, as the architect said.
Hope it doesn't come to this!

@ewkaw and @qurator Thank you so much for your support!

Oh! No! The earthquakes have spread wider. Very frightening to me! I would not know what’s best thing to do! If it’s big earthquake, I think it’s better to get outside the building fast.

Take care.

Thank you very much!
By the earthquake, I have already learned to determine the points.
Our building can withstand up to 7.
You can't use the elevator, you have to run from the 4th floor and I have 7 more cats...

Glad to know you live in a well constructed building with lots of strength to withstand strong earthquakes.
Hope that Cyprus would not be affected by tremors from other countries.

Thank you very much!
I hope so too!

Earthquake is a terrible thing. I experienced a small one in Sukhumi when I was a kid.

Good you are fine.

Thank you very much!
Do you still live there now?
Many years ago I was in Sukhumi.

Many years ago I was in Sukhumi

So was I. We left Sukhumi in 1992 when the war started. We could go to St. Petersburg so this was what we did. As for "now"... I am in Asia (Thailand, Vietnam, etc), for many years, besides the pandemic when I got stuck in St. Petersburg. So, you can say, I came back to Bangkok a week ago (after a 5-month visit to Georgia).

What language do you speak in Thailand, Vietnam and so on?

I speak English. I also know some Thai words (words of politeness, names of dishes, numbers) and I use them when needed - quite often actually.

I don't speak English unfortunately...

98% of people here don't speak English as well. Some of them know basic words like "how much", numbers, etc.

I got paranoid with earthquakes. Small shakes really gets me crazy.
