Hello Hive
It’s Christmas Eve, yet everywhere is still quiet round here. I wonder how silent the night was when Christ was born. The silence here is overwhelming me and so unusual, maybe because I'm home alone. My brother, who lives with me, went out, and since my other younger brother has been in the hospital, everything feels different.
Our usually festive celebration, often filled with many cookings, was halted. I can't cook any chicken or make any food; all we wish at this time is for my kid bro to get well so that at least we can have a peaceful Christmas. I wasn't able to attend any Christmas carols this year and have only watched a live stream of one or two praise nights.
Being home alone, I have been thinking a lot the whole day. Having gone through my music list almost 3 times already, I decided to look for something to distract me.
Normally when Christmas is coming like this, I am usually overwhelmed with a lot of sewing for different people, but this year has been different. No funds to purchase fabrics, and we aren't sure if my family would be celebrating.
My sister has been longing to have a new dress she can wear to church tomorrow; I'm not sure how that miracle will happen. If I get my hands on some fabric, I will make her a dress before tomorrow, but if not, then she must pray to be lucky another time.
I decided to declutter and clean my sewing room a little, may be a little cleanup for Christmas and while at that I found this piece of fabric I have used to sew a dress for my sister.
Picking it up, I caught an idea to sew a crop top with it, as it has bright colors and can be used as a light beach outfit together with a simple short.
Sewing is the best thing I can do right now; it will distract me from all the thoughts, and someone might find this useful for a beach outing.
Having cut the back bodice here
I placed it on another piece and cut the front overlap.
Then I had cut the sleeve
And started to sew the top
The fabric got exhausted at this point. Searching my stash bag, I found a piece of matching satin and used it for the waistband.
A lot of sewing here and there, and my top is ready.
I realized that I can make different designs of clothes with tiny pieces of fabric, both to declutter my working space and to recycle other materials for a second use.
I'm relieved that this can keep me busy for the day before I eventually step out later.
I really hope that we will all have a wonderful celebration in the end.
