With the looming threat of virus quarantine, I'm thinking about my DIY projects. These pictures are some chair legs that I bent last year. They are dry now and ready to finish.
The steam box is waterproof foam coated with mortar. It is sitting on top of a pot with a hole on the lid to let the steam out.
Bending wood takes a substantial amount of force, even when it is hot. Holding the form in a heavy vice makes it easier.
The wood can be removed from the form when it is cool, but it will spring back less if it is allowed to dry completly.
These legs are totally dry now and ready to be smoothed.
It looks like your steam box works pretty well.
