Hello, hello to all the friends of DIYHub. Today I want to share with you a project that I found very incredible and very practical. It is a different irrigation system: a self-watering glass. I think it is a very effective method, especially in these days of much sun and heat. I hope to be able to make the most of this method, since I will use it for a succulent plant that, to be honest, I forgot to water a little and it almost died. I didn't think it would dry out so quickly, and I can already see that the heat is very strong. So, before it dies, I am going to grow it again, but using this new method. I hope to have better results and to be able to recover the plant.
It is worth mentioning that self-watering cups allow plants to absorb only the amount of water they need. This reduces waste as there is no over-watering. By having the water stored in a reservoir, exposure to air is minimized, which reduces evaporation. This is especially helpful in hot climates. With this system, plants can stay hydrated for longer without the need for constant watering, which saves water in the long run. It allows for more controlled and uniform watering, which helps prevent runoff and soil erosion, contributing to better water conservation in the environment. Using self-watering cups can be part of a broader approach to sustainable gardening, promoting the responsible use of water resources. So I can see how this method of watering helps us both save water and take care of the plants. What a good idea.

(Materiales:)||(Materials:)
- Un envase de refresco
- Hilo pabilo
- Tijeras
- Agua
- Tierra
- Y la planta afectada
- A soft drink container
- String
- Scissors
- Water
- Soil
- And the affected plant

Paso nro 1
Paso nro 1
First, I washed the soda bottle thoroughly to make sure it was clean and free of debris. Then, I cut it in half. The bottom part I'll use as a water reservoir, and the top part will be where I'll place the succulent.

Paso nro 2
Paso nro 2
I decided to make two small holes in the lid at the top of the bottle. Through the holes, I threaded one end of the wick cord. I made sure that one part of the cord was inside the top (where the plant will be) and the other part was in the water reservoir.

Paso nro 3
Paso nro 3
I inverted the top of the bottle (where the succulent will be) onto the bottom (the reservoir). I made sure the wick cord was in contact with the water in the reservoir. I filled the bottom of the bottle with water, making sure the wick cord was submerged in the water.

Paso nro 4
Paso nro 4
I placed my succulent plant on top of the bottle. I made sure the roots were well positioned. If necessary, a little soil can be used to stabilize it, but it is not essential. Now I just need to check the water level in the reservoir and refill it as needed. I am excited to see how my succulent stays hydrated thanks to this self-watering system.
(Resultado final:)||(Bottom line:)
And this is how the self-watering glass turned out. I want to mention that at first you won't notice the effect, but after an hour you will be able to see that the soil is moistened. You can see that this method is a practical and ecological way of taking care of the plants, and it helps me to use water efficiently. I hope you like this irrigation method and that we continue learning to use recycled materials for a good cause.
