Greetings Fabulous Felines and Hoomans of Hivelandia and surrounding communities!
Today we take a slight departure from our usual content to look a bit behind the scenes of the joy of photographing cats! Or, rather, Hoomans trying to photograph cats.
Ideally, we'd like ALL our photos to be crisp and detailed... good luck with that!
Photographing cats is actually pretty challenging. Or, if not outright difficult, at least it presents a set of circumstances offered by most moving objects.
And cats DO move... typically when least expected!
Looking at the camera... and then... cat blur
Sure, you get to see a lot of interesting and cute pictures when you look at cat blogs and cat videos, but you don't get to look at all the bloopers and missed opportunities.
A lot of the photographs that go into creating the Curator Cat blog are taken either in the Hoomans' creative workspace, or in either of the Hoomans' home offices. Whereas they always have cameras and phones ready and in standby, the photographic output around here tends to be about 90% "cat blur" and cat butts and maybe 10% good shots.
No, I will NOT look at the camera!
Now, you might be tempted to think that 10% good shots is pretty impressive here in the digital age, but of those 10% another 90% turn out to be out of focus or something got in the way, or there's a tail in front of somebody's face... so ultimately we're looking at about 1% of the photographs being worthwhile enough that we can share them!
Not-so-still life with dog butt and cat butt, leaving...
What you also don't get to see is the fact that butts and tails and blur end up being cropped out of many photos. Whereas we don't use any Photoshop or AI, there is quite a bit of post processing that goes into creating something presentable.
Shangri napping + random feet
Of course, some of the bloopers are outright funny and we like to use those in an occasional post like this one, just for grins. But — once again — we only use the photos that are reasonably in focus and actually seem like worthwhile outtakes.
They finally settled, both looking at the toy. RIGHT next to the litter box, and with a half-eaten plate of food in the background...
This week feels a little out of sorts here in our world, perhaps because Monday was a public holiday and now the Mom-Hooman has what she's calling "a cold" which means she's parked in front of the TV with a warm blanket and hot tea.
Of course, this is good for cats who want to snuggle up and take a good nap... and she enjoys our company!
Sometimes we also get lucky. Nala was posing prettily for a portrait, but then saw something outside... but it's still a nice "mood" shot.
It has been raining and drizzling pretty much all week long, and today there is a strong cold wind as well... so we're all happy to be warm and snug inside!
By the way, we cats "go to work," as well! There are naps to be taken, sunny spots to be discovered and Kitty TV to be watched at the windows. And, of course, let's not forget finding time to supervise the Hoomans in their work which is an important task in any cat's life!
Shadow caught looking at Nala's butt!
That said, we'd better get this post up and running, because I believe I just heard cans being opened for dinner in the kitchen!
Thank you so much for visiting our cat blog, and we hope to see you soon again! And if YOU have feline friends in your life, why not share some pictures of them for Caturday on Saturday?

Love Cats? Get Involved in Hive's Cat Communities!
If you're a cat lover and often/sometimes post pictures or other content that includes your feline friends, why not become an active part of Hive's growing Cat Communities?
These are some of the more active Cat Communities — why not join them ALL? Many of the allow you to share your cat posts, even if you started at a different community!
HiveCats by @curatorcat is a central "gathering place" for cat content on Hive; promoting the use of the #hivecats tag for feline content!
Cat Snaps by @manorvillemike is a place to post pictures of your cats when you don't have a whole lot to say beyond just sharing your cute photos!
Caturday by @saboin is a community where we get to celebrate posts relating to Saturday — aka "Caturday" — our own special day!
Cat Photos by @andrarchy is a "mixed use" cat content community; posts can be just photos or longer, as long as the subject is CATS!
Cats by @captainklaus (and Sissi!) is another "general" cat content community.
There are a number of other feline communities listed on Hive, but I am not sharing them for now as they have not had any activity (by their Admins OR users) since the Steem/Hive fork. Updates as they become available!

Yes it can be hard to take pictures of cats! that is why I have hundreds of pictures of my cats resting or asleep rather than walking around or playing. I love the pictures of your kitties resting in their cat furniture. just adorable!
