Premier league actions resumed from where it stopped before the international break. Chelsea faced Newcastle United at the St James’ Park, a ground that has always been a very difficult ground for the blues. This was a very tricky fixture for Chelsea especially straight after the international break where most of their players were out for international duties and also coupled with the fact that Chelsea always finds it difficult to win at the St James’ Park add all these variables together and it becomes very difficult not to see this game as a tricky fixture for Chelsea. However, this is a different Chelsea side with much better players and players who can make things happen so on the other hand, Chelsea were still expected to come out on top in this game.

The Blues didn’t disappoint the people who tipped them to get the win at the St James’ Park. They were the much better side and deservedly got the solid away win. Chelsea started the game in a much better fashion compared to their previous premier league game where they started sloppily and were punished with a goal. This time around, they clicked from the first minute of the game and looked in total control of the match. As expected, they had majority of the ball and were making things happen with their dominant ball possession. They finally scored the first goal very early in the game and had more chances to score more but werent clinical in front of goal. An own goal by Federico F gave Chelsea the lead just 10 minutes into the game.

Chelsea didn’t reduce the gear as they were still going and going to score more goals to kill the game off in the first half. They created very good clear cut chances in that first half that should have been converted to goals but they didn’t take their chances, hence the score line remained 0-1. Newcastle began to gain confidence and had a couple of chances here and there but didn’t really do anything with those chances. The second half kicked off and it was a similar story. Chelsea had all the possession in the world, created clear cut chances like in the first half and yet again were not able to take those chances. Timo Werner made up for his misses in the game with a fabulous solo run to split open the Newcastle defence to assist Tammy Abraham for the second goal and give Chelsea the relief… as we all know how slim a 1 nil lead can be especially against a team like Newcastle who only need a counter attack or a set piece to score and ruin all the efforts Chelsea had all through the game. Tammy Abraham’s 65th minute goal sealed the win for Chelsea to push them further up the table. It was yet another very dominant performance by Chelsea who are showing signs of great things to come. Their new signings are gelling really well with the team and they are looking like a team that would do great things this season and beyond. It was a very good and crucial win for Chelsea as they continue to improve and become better and better, aiming for their ambitions this season.
