Any Step is a Step

Three weeks ago, while returning from a friend's place place, I was stuck in a traffic congestion which was lasting about an hour and half. The public transport I was in had only succeeded in moving from three bus stops in about an hour. As the traffic lingered, people got frustrated. They began to alight the vehicle to trek the distance home. I didn't see any motivation to get down from the vehicle knowing my stop is nothing less than 8 kilometers from where the bus was. I could see hundreds of people on both sides of the road trekking their way home.

Need I tell you it was 8 pm- I had never been out that late. I wasn't sure I would get a vehicle from my stop home. I was getting bothered and restless. And this got worse as soon I my Mum's call came through. I stared at my phone as it ringed. I was terrified of telling her where I had reached, she definitely would be angry. Her stance about night movement is clear to everyone. "Well, she shouldn't blame me because she's aware of the unpredictability of Lagos roads" I thought to myself. Besides, mothers aren't predictable.

I picked her call and mother didn't show any iota of anger as I revealed to her my exact location. She only assured she would give me a call in few minutes to know about the traffic situation. I was pleased. As the traffic lingered and the public transport got emptier, I got the feeling I had to take a step. I took my phone to check the severity of the traffic congestion. Loo and behold a decision changer- reports from google map showed the traffic congestion extended to my next stop. This was the prompting I needed.

I got down from the public transport and began my trekking to my next stop. I trekked a distance of 8 kilometers in approximately 45 minutes. Thank God I did; I would probably had sourced for an hotel to lay my head, that's even if I was bucked up.

On getting to my stop, I needed to get a cab which would take me home. I had to wait a long time to get one- this is owing to the fact that I had passed their working hours. Cutting a long story short, I got home at exactly 10:30 pm. Mum was happy to see me. Turned out she sat by the window wishing every cab that stopped was transporting her son. I was finally home.

I believed the universe was trying to communicate with me. He was saying "Any Step is A Step"

I stayed in the public transport because I had the notion the congestion will eventually subside and I would get home. I didn't know the severity of the situation. This can be linked with circumstances in real life. We believe a problem or a challenge will eventually subside and then wait, hoping this believe come to past soon. You might eventually rot away.

In certain countries of the world, the unemployment rate is very high. Youths wake up every day believing that someday, the government, a philanthropist or an international body will come to their aid. It get too late because most time (unfortunately), it never come to pass. Why not instead take a step and get out of the stagnant vehicle- it is moving no where. Get the information you need to become the depression, sickness, failure, struggles, unemployment, . It's not always about talent, and food doesn't get served to everyone on a cue.

Do you have a long time dream of doing something or become something? Well you don't have to wait till life seem all better. You might never get that perfect time to execute your long time goals. Do you wish to do it but don't know the right step, well a step is a step. You'd get the hang of it once you dive in.

In a certain African village, the people were faced with lots of problems, one of which is loosing their children to an unknown sickness. The people waited hoping the government will come to their aid- they heard the health officials are visit round villages in the country and they would eventually get to them. It was so unfortunate that they never did, at least not in the five years of expecting them. The village's young prince was tired of having parents wish their child is lucky to survive the unknown infants' disease so he journeyed in hope to meet with an indigene of the village who works in the government. He got to him and through series of investigation got to know the policies needed for the health officials to come to their village had not been met. He went ahead to get it all settled and in a space of 6 month, health officials stormed his village. All the while, the prince and his people waited for the government intervention not knowing that they had some things not in place. They could have waited a longer time or forever if the prince had not taken a step. Was it the right step the prince took? Was it the ultimate or direct step that brought the officials? Was there a better approach or step? Well, A step is a step!

I hope you learnt a thing or two, like Nigerians say, "At all at all, na him bad pass!", meaning the worst of all is not taking any step.
